Travel options?

I do a lot of traveling with my Simpsons Berkeley super badger brush. I'm starting to notice that keeping it the bottom of my travel bag isn't the best thing for it. Is there any cases I can get for a brush or is there any travel brushes anyone could recommend? Problem is unfortunately money is tight and I do not want to drop big bucks on another brush, but I do travel with my brush once a week. Can anyone recommend some good options?

Pick up a prescription bottle from the pharmacy and drill several holes in it. The may give you one or charge you a nominal fee. Take your brush with you when you go.

Frank Shaving synthetics. You can get a custom one shipped to you for $25. Synthetics will dry within 3 hours or so.

Pill bottle with holes works great. I use my Omega Might Midget for travel (with said pill bottle) but before that, had absolutely no issue taking the Berkeley with me on trips.

+1. I use the same for my Duke 1. Works great. Most pharmacies will give you a bottle for free.

Measure your brush height-if you've got a particularly short-lofted Berkeley <87mm it will fit in the $5 Simpsons brush tube. Mine unfortunately is a little too tall and I don't want to crush bristles. Otherwise the matching Case brush is a great travel option with performance not unlike the Berkeley just a tad smaller. On the cheap the Omega Mighty midget 11047 or #40033 are also great travel brushes for <$15 and fit the Simpsons tube as well. Then there's the Wee Scot of course if you want a really small travel brush.

Container Store and other places (REI for example) sell polyethylene snap-top containers in varied sizes. Some of the larger ones work fine with some brushes. That's what I currently use. A small one with my Wee Scot, but a larger one with Simpson's "Duke" which is my current travel favorite - since I use creams for travel mostly.

Here's the key thing I found:
Use a leather punch to put a series of holes from the *base* of the knot up to about halfway to the end. And also plenty in the top.
If you put holes higher on the tube, the ends of the brush will catch in that when you try to remove it. (Found that out with the first attempt.)
I also store the entire kit in a bag that has a mesh panel. That helps things to dry out.

Works perfectly for me too.

I also add a small packet of Silica Gel recovered from an electronis purchase I made.

I picked up 2 60 dram medicine bottles at my local Walgreens. I just walked up to the prescription center and asked for 2. I offered to pay, but they gave them to me for nothing. Went home and drilled a few holes in the caps, and I am ready to go.

If you forget the pill bottle or just don't have time, an empty toilet paper roll is a 'better than nothing' solution!

This is my typical travel setup but I can tell you that a Simpson 46 Berkeley fits perfectly in one of the pill bottles like you see above.

Muhle Pinsel Round Shave Brush Travel Holder. $10 and works great for me.

I discovered that same tube is available from McMaster-Carr for about $2 to $3. Unfortunately I cannot determine the shipping cost. They have many other sizes, so I'm considering a shorter one for my travel brush.

You can get the Muhle tube from West Coast shaving for 6.50 as well. It is quite huge though, fits an Emillion 2 with room to spare. You can fill the top with cotton balls or something similar to help dry the brush on your way back.

Thats what I use. It works well.

Here's a pic of the Muhle Tube. Very plain but it does the job well. I travel a lot also and my Muhle medium silvertip brush does well in this container.

My travel brush is right now a Thaeter 4125/00, fits perfectly in the Simpson travel tube. I also have another travel brush, self made from a 18 mm Silvertip Grade A knot and a handle like a Chubby and it also fits the tube. Before I had a Wee Scot, but it is a bit on the small side. The pill container is a good idea, I have my Palmolive shave stick in one of the small containers, fits perfectly.
