Lather for straight shaving needs to be wet, a lot wetter that you use for DE.RazorRock will hold a ton of water.

Try using the heel of the blade on the tougher areas. The edge is closer to you grip with better control and stability and also more blade mass.

Start you strokes on clean skin, no beard. You need blade speed when hitting the hairs. Keep the stroke short and slightly overlapping.

I dont do more that 15-20 laps on canvas, but do at least 50-70 on clean leather before and after each shave.
Wanted to say a quick thanks for this post. Used all the advice you gave on a head shave with my Boker Classic last night, and had a wonderful shave!
