Tradere Came Scratched

I just received a Tradere I had ordered a few days ago. While it has been said to be an excellent razor, there is a micro scratch just above the base plate.

The scratch wasn't even its only fault; there is a tiny brown blemish caught in the knurls of the handle.

Normally, I wouldn't be so upset about this; as it doesn't affect the shave. But I am rather irked because I bought the razor almost solely due to the fact that its quality is said to be superior to even that of the Feather, and that I paid over $170 for it. When I pay $170 for a razor, it had better be a damn fine razor, down to the very quality.

I found these two faults upon opening the box - I haven't even shaved with the razor yet; I tried taking a picture of it but the iPhone camera is of poor quality; this is the best I could do:

The following picture is the Tradere base plate.

Now the other two pictures are of the top of the base plate; where the scratch is. The first picture doesn't show the scratch very well, but there is a white line right on the top, coming from between the first two combs and going across the face of the base plate.

The second picture shows it much better as I was able to get the light to shine on the crack. Again, it is the white line right between the first two combs.

So what's up with Tradere? I heard it's of excellent quality while this scratch clearly shows otherwise. While it's not too visible in the camera, it is definitely deep as my fingernail will pause upon gliding over it.

I feel cheated out of $170; since a company is charging $170 for a razor, it should really be flawless. My last Stainless Steel razor was a Weber that has always been argued to be of shoddier quality than the other SS razors; my Weber came without scratches and was much cheaper as well.

Is there any exchange policy, or anything? (The razor is still unused; just thoroughly examined)

They'll really replace it? That's reassuring, thanks guys; I'll try to contact them.

Turtle, you're always so prompt with your responses and very helpful. They ought to make you moderator sometime ;D

I think you'll find that customer service is very important to the trusted vendors in the wetshaving world. It's true that they rely on word of mouth advertising and repeat business, but they also take a great deal of pride in what they do and their products. I've heard very few horror stories regarding poor customer service with regard to shaving related vendors. Hope it works out for you, I think you can rest easy that it will get resolved to your satisfaction though..... probably just a little bump in the road. :scooter:

Is this true in the case of Tradere? Oh, I really hope so. I'm really looking forward to having a razor of the quality that I've heard of so much. Does anyone have any experience with Tradere's customer service?

Did you buy directly from Richard or through a 3rd party vendor?

The original poster made a legitimate observation about a product he received, and seemed truly surprised and pleased when he was advised that he should have no problem resolving it, so I can't see how he's trying to stir any trouble.

One of the wonderful things about machined polished stainless steel razors is that a dinky scratch like that (or worse) can usually be easily polished away rather quickly....Put yourself in the manufacturer's shoes, that type of flaw could have easily been caused by the buyer.

The honorable thing to do would have been to give Tradere a chance to make things right before broadcasting it.

It's been over a day and he still hasn't gotten back to me yet.
I'm getting somewhat shifty :/

Since that day, I emailed Tradere. The person (Richard?) replied and let me send him the razor I had received and would exchange it. He even offered to fully recompense for the shipping (an offer I rejected).

I shipped it out with the cheapest, slowest possible option (one day after I made this post), and he sent the razor with priority shipping. I received the razor today.

I must say I'm very pleased - He could have easily swindled me out of the $160.

Another comment I have to make - I feel that the razor I had originally received must have been used. This one is eons above that one in terms of quality - I now see why people rank Tradere's quality so highly; the razor was simply glistening in its box.

I can only assume it was an error made by Tradere Razors; this one is so far above the original one I received in terms of quality, I'm in love :D

Great Experience with Tradere, will definitely deal with them again (looking to buy that SB head).

(The box the razor comes in smells rancid for some reason though lol)

@Toucan - I get a very negative vibe from your posts. I understand that 170.00 is not a small amount of money. Especially for a razor. On the other hand, your approach has been to go public without trying to resolve it with the vendor first. Even after the vendor did everything possible to make you happy your report is less than glowing. Going so far as to claim that they sold you a used razor the first time. Hw is this actually fair in any way shape or form?
