Tracking blade usage?

OK, I may be getting a bit OCD here... :001_unsur

I'm thinking about hanging a calender in my closet to track blade usage.
Anyone else here have a means that they track what blades they have used and number of times?

contact Christopher (The Count of Merkur Cristo) he has a nice spread sheet that he'll send you

I've created a spreadsheet on Google Docs. I track blade, number of uses, razor, software used, and I also include ratings for my lather and for shave itself. I then have another sheet where I tabulate the blade scores vs. the razor used to see what blade works best with what razor.

then I have a spreadsheet to track my software inventory
and one to track my blade inventory
and one to track me...well, you get the idea.

For a long time, I maintained my own Shave of the Day notebook where I noted hardware and software used daily to keep track of among other things what blade worked best in particular razors.

A spreadsheet would a much better option.

I use a different razor and blade every day. I may have anywhere up to a dozen blades unwrapped at any given time

When I finish my shave, I remove the blade from the razor, drop it on a towel, fold a corner of the towel over and pat it dry. I then move the blade to one of 6 blade wrappers that are marked 1 thought 6 for the number of days the blade sitting on that wrapper has on it.

When I shave, I decide which razor to use, then I grab one of the unwrapped blades and shave. Once done I dry the blade and move it down to the next numbered wrapper.

This is about the only way I can keep track of how many shaves I have on a dozen open blades.

i put them back into their wrapper and use a sharpie pen to mark the number of uses on the wrapper, then put it back into the pack. Simple and easy. Good luck.

I have 4 razors in rotation at the moment, to keep track of how many shaves each blade has seen I put little dice next to the razor. Since I never use a blade more that six times, this works well.

I like this idea a lot. Easy, and effective.

I use a spreadsheet to note every shave item I bought when, from where, the price and findings. Mind you this spreadsheet has been expanding to several themed blades and is still growing along with my collection...

Why?

Why would you guys do this? For me, the quality of a blade after X amount of shaves is SOOO subjective. I mostly use Astra SP's, and at $10/100, they're so cheap that if I get any indication that a blade is questionable, I just toss it. Sometimes that's after 4 or 5 shaves or even more, sometimes it's only a single use. I just don't see the value in a statistical accounting of blade use.

Recently, I've noticed I'm still using cart mentality by pushing blades past their prime. I use 1 or 2 blades at a time and dispose of them after 3, NO more than 4 shaves tops. I don't use a fancy tracking system, just my grey matter.

For me to relieve my memory and to note which blades to buy and which ones to avoid.

I use so many blades that it is imposable to know how many shave are on each one. It's just a matter of knowing is all.

Unwrap 12 different brands of blades and see if you can remember how many shaves are on each one? That's like a couple of months worth of shaves total.

Funny all that; I'm different, I wouldn't have the motivation for that. I use one blade at a time (for about 7 shaves), and I use up the whole pack before I select the next on a whim. I have four blade brands in stock currently, once they're used up I'll probably restock with just one brand. I can shave well with all the blades I've tried, with the exception of Feathers and Souplex. On the whole, not much statistics needed there.

Yes, I post about them in the blade threads on B&B.

Minimalisn has its virtues. I have settled on one, and only one, blade. I change it after my Sunday morning shave. Simple.

You must not have cats. I do. If I didn't have any, this idea would be a keeper.

I keep an index card where I note my razor, soap and blade. I mark how many shaves each blade has. I see a few people who post the same type of thing in the Shave of the Day thread.

I have a five day rotation Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Here lately I have been switching around and Nils dice setup sounds good.
