Tortoise Shell?

I just purpurchased a tortoise scale razor, but I believe it is not as genuine as the seller claimed. It appears the scales are mounted to a metal backing. Are these real, it do I need to request a refund?

There’s collars around those pins. I’ve only ever seen collarless pins on genuine tortoise. They look a little too thick as well.

They don’t look like tortoise to me but the images are very dark. Tortoise usually did not have collars on the pins unless they were decorative collars, though your razor certainly has had scale work done as evidenced by the liner. Genuine tortoise also doesn’t have sharp divisions between the light and dark. Here’s a couple of examples. Note the soft edge to the darker areas.

What’s the razor brand? I don’t think that I’ve ever seen a tortoise-scaled German razor, and tortoise scales past the 1800s were rare except for Heljestrands up to WWII.

Thank you. I will try to get a lighter image, but the metal behind it makes the scales look darker.

I will look the brand up tonight, if it is written on it. I believe the box said Commander $2.50

I would say not likely, most tortoise is not that colorful and like Steve says the color is not sharply demarcated
