In case you haven't tried the old methods yet: Soak in hot soapy water and wiggle the toggle a bit, soak more, wiggle more, soak more, wiggle more, etc. Don't force the toggle. Usually if they won't open they are full of old soap and debris. Occasionally they need mechanical repair though and Cap is the man to do it.

If it were mine, which it is not , I'd go so far as to bring it up to a boil in a saucepan of water for 10 minutes.
That did wonders for a crusty Aristocrat I found.

Hey, New Coke was freaking delicious! Everybody was blinded by pre-judgment.

Even the guy who was president of the group that was petitioning Coke to get rid of New Coke picked New Coke as the better cola when he did a blind taste test. Lol. True story.
