If you don't mind me asking, where did you get that acrylic? I have been wanting to do something similar, but have had a devil of a time finding suitable plastic.

AHA!! A quick question Limey, how does it rate (compared to original scale material) as far as stiffness and scratch resistance?

I think it is very similar in stiffness but with scratch resistance I am not sure. The acrylic did take a very nice finish and with some care I'm sure it will be fine.
