Toggle

I have one problem! I can see my self ending up with a toggle in a near future but really dont care for goldrazors. I'll send my Aristocrat from 47 to Kronakruiser for replating to nickel because I think that's a awesome razor. I wonder if that's okay to do with a sought after toggle? I've seen replated toggles in rhodium that was simply stunning!
Have some of you razorlunatics a toggle in nickel so please feel free to post here, I would much appreciate it! :biggrin1:

there is a nickel toggle, but it's even more rare the the gold one.

the replated toggles are very nice. nickel, rhodium etc.

if i ever score one, unless it's MINT, it will get replated in nickel as well. i don't care for gold razors.

Wasn't it a nickel toggle with NOS blades and a leather case that went for $1200+ on the bay recently?

I have seen the rhodium replates at AbovetheTie. They do look nice, indeed.

I had a Nickle Toggle.

I sold it to someone here. They are not exactly the same mechanically as the gold colored toggles and there were some other gold toggles which had another different mechanism. There were serial numbered gold ones with only 1 - 5 adjustments.

The Nickle plated one is 1 - 9 and instead of the red dot it has a black spring somewhat like a Fatboy. The adjustment plate is the full width of the bottom but has four points like a Fatboy not the four or five finger-like points that a common gold toggle has.

It was similar to the Bottom Dial.

If I had a Toggle in good working order and loved using it I would plate it in whatever finish I wanted.

Gold is what it is. It is soft and wears off sooner or later.

If you own it, plate it however you wish.

I would go nickle and be done. I don't feel Rhodium is worth the extra cost.

Considering the fact that having it replated in any finish makes it no longer original, you may as well go for the finish you desire and will be happy living with. I don't feel it adds much to the value either way.

A replated razor is replated period- and suspect in many collectors eyes to mechanical issues. So is a beat up user grade razor. Although someone may desire a refinished razor that has already been prettied up with new plating- a true minty and original item will always be more valuable.

You mean $85.. With a mint nos Gold/slim Aristocrat.:biggrin1:

yes, i recall that one. it was the toggle with the leather carry case all NOS etc. B&B guy got it late one night, starting price bid, but he pushed the BIN for $85 and scored one heck of a deal.
