A couple of weeks ago my wife was at a local antique mall and called me with a razor find. Her descriptions weren't the best, so I didn't have her pick them up. We went back tonight and I'm glad I went with my gut feeling. The two sets she found were an ABC Empire set with no case lining and a Tech in the case for $45. The other was a Gillette Service Set with no lining and a gold ball-end old priced at $55. I was interested in both until I saw them.
I found several injectors, a hoard of straights, several hones and strops. The only thing I came home with is this Gem Jr.
The worst part was when we were leaving and my wife asked, "How much was that razor?"
Me: "Ten bucks. Why?"
SWMBO: "The bill seems high. I don't know what all I bought."
I pulled out the receipt for review and found the following line item:
GEM Jr. Single Edge Razor - $99.50
I returned to the store and got it all sorted out. The thought of almost paying $100 for that GEM was a bit unpleasant. I'm glad she was paying attention, even if it was a little after the fact.
