TOBS Shaving Stick - Help ?

I used a TOBS shaving stick Sandalwood today for the first time.
The first problem was that the turning knob does not move the stick. Any tips how to remedy that?
I was generally underwhelmed by the packaging. No seal, the etiquette was even not glued right on on mine...
Anyway, so I tried to apply the dome that was sticking out on my beard and was very surprised by the speed with which my whiskers destroyed the stick, very unlike my usual Palmolive. Soon the plastic began grating on my skin, so I stopped and used the badger to lather it. It was good, but I noticed that the brush didn't load deep - again unlike the Palmolive. The first pass was ok, but there was hardly enough lather for the second pass, so I loaded the brush anew on the stick to be able to finish shaving. I didn't do my normal third pass.
I must admit I am pretty underwhelmed. I hope it's something I'm doing wrong, because I WANT to like TOBS. However, after shaving for several months with a Palmolive stick I am very disappointed. I bought this as a travel soap, but it seems that I will have to buy something else for that.
Thank you in advance for your comments.

Recently I finished a TOBS shaving stick. The soap itself was very high quality in my opinion. I too found that the brush didn't load deeply when face lathering. I never saw this as a problem since I would just rub the stick on my beard for each successive pass..

However, I found it a bit messy. It is a very soft soap for a stick. Anyway, I eventually ended up just cutting off a bit with a pocket knife and bowl lathering. Although this kinda defeats the purpose of a stick, I like to bowl lather and it was a wonderful soap.

Sorry, I can't tell you what to do about the fact that the stick won't advance when you twist the turning knob.

Thanks a lot! I found it very soft as well. I might try bowl-lathering it as well. Too bad it defeats the purpose of the shaving stick...
