TOBS samples came in the mail today!

courtesy of Classicshaving. They sent me cotton ball samples of Eton College, Shaving Shop, Mr Taylor and St James

Eton College: my favorite, loved the smell

Shaving Shop: big disappointment. Aside from it fading fast on my skin it really had that "Old Timer" smell to it.

Mr Taylor: different than I was expecting. Very musky/dusty? Not bad, but a solid 2 behind Eton College

St James: soapy but had a designer cologne element to it. Like they combined elements of Soap with eletments of Polo Sport.

These are deffinately old school scents, different than what I was expecting. Not poor quality like commercial frags but definately the 3rd rung of the 3T's.

I'll now be purchasing Eton College

I don't know if I'd call them 3rd rung of the 3T's, personally. T&H colognes nearly all smell synthetic or remind me of the department store (except for Grafton and maybe Spanish Leather), and Trumper's, while having some very high-quality frags, have several that should have stayed in the 1880's.

That said, I've never smelled Eton College. Seems to be a popular one, though.

I agree that T&H scents smell synthetic. I kind of liked a couple of them, but really they don't smell that far off from common deodorant.

Does Mr. Taylor smell like the SC? I thought I had seen a post that it was quite different. I love the smell of Mr Taylor's SC.

Does Eton smell like the shaving cream?

The Eton College smelled like the shave cream till I put it on my skin, then it smelled more like Pinaud Clubman, lol After I put it on it smelled sweet like Trumpers Skye.

Mr Taylor smells very different compared to the cream. Some say spicy, it does have a strong green, incense smell to it.

Now that i've tried all of them on, I'll be getting the shave shop and Mr Taylor.
