TOBS- Jermyn St

Question: Does anyone have stinging or burning sensation using this cream? I mean, it says for sensitive skin... so I would think not.

I got some off the BST and LOVE LOVE LOVE the scent:001_wub:, and used it for a while once i first got it with no problem at all. It was quite pleasant, in fact. Then, well you know how it goes... I got some other stuff, so I used that and then something else etc... I decided that I should revisit it because it was such a good cream and went to try it yesterday and got this tingling which progressed to a stinging then almost burning sensation:ohmy:. I thought it was because of the new boar brush I was face lathering with prickling my skin so I chalked it up to that.

So today I tried using it again, just rubbing it on and hand lathering it like a brushless cream (which did work quite well) but there was still a sting to it. I mean, it was nowhere near as bad as yesterday... but still there. :001_unsur

I am thinking that it is possible that being as it was only yesterday there could be some residual damage from the boar hair pricks which may still be a little bit sensitive, but I am starting to wonder if it is the cream. :crying:

I really hope not the cream because I dont want to let this stuff go... It smells terrific, and the post shave feel is great.

Thanks for any feedback.

Come to think of it I did get that burning feeling once using Jermyn St. I never really found out what caused it, it never happened again, and I had forgotten about it. To this day I don't know if it was the Jermyn St or a fluke. I still use Jermyn St regularly.

Try making a lather and then putting some in the crook of your elbow and leave it there for 10 min. If you get a reaction, then it wasnt a fluke. If you dont, then it might be jus a weird coincidence.

elbow had no reaction... strange indeed. I will try using it again tomorrow. It may have just been the new boar bristles. :/

So many factors are at play... unrelated inflammation, cut, rash, etc. Or a different product that you used interacted with the cream, etc etc etc

If it's a true allergy, then for sure your elbow would have reacted... particularly since the inside of your elbow is actually very sensitive.

Yeah, I know. I just need to figure out what the cause of this irritation is so that I can continue to use the cream without it destroying my shave. I would usually just scrap it and move on, but i REALLY like the scent. I actually bought the bath bar, and I washed my face with it with no issues. Im going to compare the ingredient... this is really puzzling me. Im at the point where I just want to figure it out either way... stinkin enigmas.

Im going to see if I can get the bath bar to lather in the meantime

I used Jermyn St. This morning, too. I got it in a really sweet tin from WCS. I fully agree on the scent and post-shave feel. I had a sub-par shave with it when I first got it, then read some posts saying it is a VERY thirsty cream. This morning I used way more water than I usually do and got a great shave.

You may have gotten some brush burn with the boar. It's happened to me with my Semogue 1305. I'm still trying to get used to that brush after 25 or so shaves. Try it with a good badger and see what happens.

I am waiting for my first good badger brush from a member that I got on the BST. I will wait for that before I try again i think...

Jermyn St. is my number one go to cream/soap. I love it, and use it at least once or twice a week. I have never had any sort of irritation.

I would say since you didn't get any reaction on your elbow, as well as the bath soap not causing a reaction, that it was something else. I know when I got my b&b essential about a month ago, it was really scratchy, so it could be that. Just break it in more, and you might have better luck.

I can tell you that I cannot use my Jermyn St. aftershave splash by itself; it burns my skin way too much. I use it as an astringent in the evening because man do I love that scent!
