Tobacco Scents

I just sampled the outrageously expensive ($260 for 3.4 oz) Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille EDT for two days and I might as well as have hung a vanilla air freshener from my ear (and for that money I could have bought 200 of them!) :tongue_sm All I get is one note vanilla straight through...no complexity whatsoever. I agree with this youtube review completely: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeNCTTTM7fE

My question is, if I wanted to sample a genuine tobacco scent, one where tobacco is a *major* note, where would I start?

I tend to agree with you about the Tom Ford, but i do enjoy it. Creed's Vintage Tabarome is suppose to be a great Tobacco smell as well as Alt Innsbruk

Oh, as far as vanilla scents go, it's superb. The sillage and longevity are also top-notch. But I was looking for just a hint of tobacco, and I found none. It's also very pricey for what you're getting.

Sorry to hear you didn't like Ford's offering. I tested a sample last week and found it pretty delightful. The tobacco is there, but it is probably overshadowed by vanilla.

I currently have and wear Tabacco from Odori. It too is pricey and the vanilla is pretty prominent.

Unfortunately, Vintage Tabarome is probably the king of tobacco scents with the B&B crowd. It has more of a fine "cigar" vibe than pipe. Most tobacco scents key in on "pipe" tobacco which is usually sweeter.

Tabarome Millesime I like a lot too. Hard to guess if you'd like it. Lots of citrus and ginger with tobacco. No vanilla though.

C&S Cuba what is an excellent note of cigar tobacco to me, but apparently a portion of the population smells it as very fecal.

I have a C&S Cuba sample and don't find it that bad as so many others do, but I don't get much of the tobacco note...then again, I haven't applied it yet so perhaps it dries down into a tobacco base.

FYI, I was in the Creed boutique in NYC about ten days ago, and they said they still had two bottles of Vintage Tabarome left. I believe it's now $15,000 per ounce.

Actually, at this point, they will only trade one ounce of Vintage Tabarome for another.

This may be a good test. My theory all along has been that what some folks (not me) smell as fecal what to others (me) smells like unburned cigar tobacco, which I suppose is more a molasses and earthy aroma.

Are you getting any fecal-type notes at all?

If not, perhaps there is yet another classification of human noses that smells neither feces nor cigar. I sent the only Cuba I had left off to featherweight re the I hate Cuba thread, and I do not know that I have any left to test, but my recollection is the the fecal note and the cigar notes were right up front. Top notes, although to me the cigar note carries through.

I recommend Michael Kors... a very good tobacco scent for around $60-70 U.S.

Description:The key note, classic patchouli, is reinvented with mysterious touches of suede, smoke, and spices. The oriental fragrance blends:

• A fresh, aromatic top note of zesty bergamot and spicy undertones of warm cinnamon, exotic cardamom, and star anise.
• A modern middle note built around rich pipe tobacco. This masculine scent is further enriched with notes of supple suede.
• The soul of the fragrance, patchouli, lingers in the bottom note. Complemented by dried fruits, such as dark plump plums.

Two of my favorites have tobacco (Unless I'm wrong... I'm a scent newbie)

I am intrigued by the Portland General Store items.

Santa Maria Novella Toscano is beautiful & I really like the Tobacco note in Burberry London :thumbup1:

If you like some Balsam Fir mixed in with your tobacco check out John Varvatos Vintage. To me its the best of both worlds.

If you like Alt Innsbruck, it sounds like you're into a single note of Tobacco. If you get around to ordering from The Perfumed Court, see what offerings they have of CB I Hate Perfume. He makes "accords" that are dead on, and surprisingly interesting and complex.

+1. Every time I have mentioned this frag it seems to go over like a turd in a punchbowl. If a person is looking for a sweeter tobacco scent than this is a great choice.

If the cigar thing is what you are after, Havana has my vote.

I have a couple bottles of Cigar Aficionado. Though more of a citrus-type cologne, there are some tobacco notes in it too.
