To Soak or not to soak

I'm curious what everyone does to prep their badger brush. I usually run it under warm water for a few minutes then load it.

Does anyone soak their badger brush like you would a boar?

No, I just run it under some water for 30 seconds or so. Just while I wait for the water to start running warm. I used to soak it but I think a soaked badger brush is too soft, the tips of the hair started curling and it was just weird...

I never saw the need. If anything I would have to ring out the brush after soaking it. A few seconds under the tap, and I'm good to go, either face or bowl lathering.

If it is completely dry (not been used in some time) then it gets a soak while I wash my face and get everything else ready. If it is in rotation (used two days ago but not yesterday) then a rinse under a hot tap and it's lather time.

I was soaking my badger, however recently I've been doing something different. I just started using Arko, although this will probably apply to all the shave sticks I just bought and will be trying. :) Anyway, I fill my mug with just enough water to get about 1-2mm of the Arko covered. I then shower and when I'm finished but before drying off I take the Arko out of the mug and put my badger brush right into the Arko'd water. I dry off and apply the Arko to my face, take my brush which has now soaked up that little water and face lather. Don't need any extra water at all and the brush retains great amounts of lather too.

Cheers,

M.

For a long time I was running it under water and just using it. Recently I have been soaking it in Luke warm water while I'm in the shower and what a difference! The brush seems hold a lot more water when soaked and softens up quite a bit.

Regards
Dave

For my Semogue boars, if I do not soak or rinse & wait, I get several broken hairs. With my badger I do not see much difference in performance from soaking.

I drop it in a coffee mug of distilled water before I have a shower (hard water here). It's good to go 10 minutes later when I'm ready for it. I do the same for badger and boar.

I soak it for about five minutes. In my mind, it holds water better, feels softer and doesn't lose hairs as easily. Whether it actually does or not, I don't know :)

I soak all my brushes (boar and badger) for as long as it takes to shower (anywhere from 4-30 minutes depending on my mood). I doubt they need it, but I've not seen a downside either

About four months ago I switched from under the water to soaking. It seems like every year for the past twenty plus years I alternate. Why, I do not know.

I have always soaked my brush while I'm filling my sink and splashing water all over my face; so, say 2 minutes?

If I don't soak my brush, it would be too "stiff" for me, especially two bands!
