What's new

To refinish or not to refinish, that is the question.

Just wondering about refinishing the old 3 piece in these pics. I've been around old firearms for years (didn't want to say decades) and I know of the loss of value that refinishing does to them, but at only $4.50 for this razor I don't think I'd lose much.

Questions:

  1. About how much would it cost for a decent finish job; this is for aesthetics but the razor is used for shaving
  2. What type of finish would be good that would hold up for a shaver
  3. There is a very well thought of jewelry school here at the junior college, would that be a good place to check

Any other info. from the knowledgeable people here would be greatly appreciated.

Re-plated to my knowledge probably costs around around $25. I would advise against it unless the razor has some sort of sentimental value to you.

You can likely find a much better quality "Old Type" razor, with the plating intact for around the same price.

Yikes! That settles that issue. If it was around $5 to maybe $10....

Is the finish actually damaged on those? I'd bet a good session of polishing and cleaning would make a world of difference to those razors.

I think I'll try to pick up some maas and see how that does.
