Tingle sensation on cheeks after shaving ?I

I get this tingling sensation on my cheeks after shaving. I don't think it's razor burn, as I don't get it on my neck which would be more prone to razor burn. I actually think it has something to do with my lather. I don't know if it could be a reaction to the cream or that the brush is too hard on my face. I use the following: Edwin Jagger DE89, Edwin Jagger Best Badger Brush, Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood cream.

Any thoughts ? Is this common ?

Take a small bit of cream and lather it up. Put just a bit of the cream on your arm. If you get the burning there, then there's something in the cream thats causing the tingling.

Done. I lathered it, and put it on my arm. I also put it on my cheeks by hand (no brush). No sensation on the arm, but sure enough, the sensation was there on the cheeks. It's the cream.

So where do I go from here ? I'm thinking about finishing the tub, which has a long way to go. I don't like waste. Thoughts ?

Any ideas on what cream I should try next ? (in the next couple of months, if I decide to finish this one)

I don't think its the product, because it doesn't bother your neck.

Sounds like it might be related to the brush you're using, but that's just a guess. You might try using a different brush or even a synthetic.

Unfortunately sandalwood makes quite a few people have allergic reactions. Smells great, but some people's skin get irritated by it. Stop using it now because it will only get worse. You could take something off of the Neverending PIF list that you would like to try instead, and then put up your cream to replace it.

Hmm, might wanna make sure it really is the cream first, because it should do the same to your neck. Arms are not as sensitive as the face.

Ok, I'll give it a some more tries but I did apply without the brush, thus discarding the idea that it could be the brush. Maybe I'm using water too hot ? I could try fixing that next.....

Anyway, what should I try if it is the cream ? Should I stay with something TOBS but a different scent, or go to a different brand ?

linty1

My wallet cries.
Mm, I do find that after shaving my face is exfoliated a bit... dunno about tingling though...

That slight tingling will likely increase over time; as it sounds similar to my experience with RazorRock's Mughetto di Bologna (Lily of the Valley) shaving soap

I really loved the scent and performance, but after a couple of uses that tingle turned into a itch then a burning sensation. It became a PIF.

Place the TOBS out on the B/S/T, it is very popular and will likely be traded or sold quickly

Ok. Can you tell a newbie what is the B/S/T, and how do PIF's work ?

BTW, I find it funny that your cream was Lily of the Valley. Did you know that's poisonous if consumed ? :scared:

Its definitely the cream, you've become sensitized to one of the ingredients in it, the more you expose yourself to it the worse the reaction will become. I had to stop using Palmolive cream as after applying it I would get a prickly feeling on my cheeks. Like you I didn't get it on my neck, so I thought it might be the brush until I got a rash! I've since tried samples of TOBS Trumpers and Proraso and I haven't experienced the same sensation with any of those. It might be worth your while to buy a number of samples from a vendor on the site like gaj90027 or just play it safe and select a cream which if formulated for sensitive skin.

Yes, I am now on the hunt for a sensitive skin cream. First two quick contenders are TOBS sensitive skin and GFT Violet, which says is for sensitive skin. Should I go for the scented Trumpers, or should I just drop the hope of using something scented ?
