Tin Foil ???

Have you ever heard the term "tin foiling" the edge but you didn't know exactly what they were talking about????
Well, look no further, here is your example! :cursing:

I figure you can't post the good with out a few pics of the bad.
Looks like this one will end up a little smaller then originally planned :biggrin1:

To explain a little bit about the pic.
The razor had been HT'ed and 90% of the final grind finished.
As you can see it had been honed.
I do that before I take the blade up through the different grit belts.
The pre-honing lets me see any "problem" areas that may need to be corrected before progressing.

It's been a while since I've messed one up .... So far this week, I've warped one during HT'ing, then tin foiled this one....It's been a banner week :a50:

I honed a razor about a month ago and noticed "something" hanging from the edge at the heel. Thinking it was crud or dust or whatever I tried to wipe it off. After several passes on my shop rag it wouldn't budge. So....I got out the magnifying glass and saw that it was the edge honed so thin it was like rice paper, it freely moved and flopped back and forth but could not be pulled off. I had to hone it off. Kinda tinfoilish. Never seen that before.

She was around a 8/8. The good thing about steel is... as long as you don't overheat it you can just keep grinding.
Looks like she will survive in the form of 13/16

I've done a few like this lately. I just haven't been posting pics. It's just different since all the hobbyist stuff is now all in one thread. I'll try to post a few pics

i did the same thing the other day..... i just shook my head and put my safety glasses on and slapped it flat against my anvil.....

bout 20 pieces.... lol...

glad you could salvage yours!!

Looks like it's only good for the bin. Send it to me after you've reground it for further inspection. You can put some scales on it too so that the postman doesn't cut himself!

Oh and love the spine, jimps and monkey tail by the way.
