timeline of Super-Adjustable

I see your point, but I'm not sure I would classify swapping out an adjustor piece as fraud. I imagine the plate from a slim would fit as well, but I haven't tried it.

I checked the slim and SA's bases and adjusters and it appears that it will NOT work.

I have had the chance to buy some cases of NOS blades that appear to shed some light on razor production as well. 1988-90 was when the production in the US seems to have shut down for both blades and razors. This squares with my recollection of what was available at stores as well. The transition was a little slower than they planned and phased through those 3 years. As someone who wanted to buy Gillette razors, but usually bought Schick, because of big price differences, I would read the boxes back then. Around 1990, the razors were from the UK (or later somewhere else) and the blades were from France all of a sudden for the US market.

thanks for all the input. With this informations and pictures we have this new timeline:

long handle Super-Adjustable: 1969 (O1) - 1976 (W3)
long handle Super-Adjustable with plastic bottom plate: 1977 (X1) - 1981 (B4)
long handle Super-Adjustable new knurling: 1980 (A1) - 1988 (I2)

long handle gold Super-Adjustable: 1969 (O4) - 1970 (P1)

short handle Super-Adjustable: 1968 (N3) - 1975 (V1)

It looks like they made in 1980/81 both knurlings

Does anyone have a picture of a 1968 short handle? I have an O1 I did not know they were made in 68.

I have a 1988 Adjustable, date code I - 2 stamped on the inside, sitting in my razors drawer. Diamond knurling of that latter period, plastic bottom piece, made in the 2nd quarter of 1988. I have kept my eye out for a J code adjustable but have not found one. That would be a 1989 razor. Supposedly DE was manufactured into the early 90's from this link: http://gillettedatecodes.com/

Gibb, he wanted to know about the TTO and Techs though.
Does anyone know when the last Gillette TTO was discontinued? Also, when was the Tech last sold in the US?

Thank you.

I'm new to this forum and will give it a go...I recently purchased a Gillette "Black Beauty" dated I 2 just like the one pictured.I have been trying to do some research. So far I believe these were made in 1988.It may be the last year?? There might be a few made in 1989 but not sure..Been DE razor shaving now for 3 years.Love it! Just find the DE blade that suits your face and shaver, can't beat it.

My 1983 Black Beauty is my "go to" razor. I love the long handle. It actually is very easy to maneuver, and that diamond knurling has excellent grip.

So, has anyone ever seen a US made safety razor with a date code past I-2? It would be pretty cool if that was the last date code, because that happens to be my birth year and quarter. I just grabbed one off of fleabay, pretty excited for it to arrive! I've heard of mostly I-2s, and seen a few I-1's, but no I-3 or I-4 or any letter past I.
