What's new

time to thin the herd: Lavanda, Cella, Rose of Bulgaria, Arko, and LEA.

I've had a few soaps and creams that I said I'd finish before I opened up my new puck of D.R. Harris Arlington and Speick stick. Almost all of the soaps or creams had 10 or less shaves left in them. I need to thin out the herd.

Lavanda (Old formula): A very nice mentholated cream that required a bit more cream and doesn't lather very easily but gave me a great shave. I have another tube and will definitely try the new version when I finish my last tube.

Arko: Much beloved and hated. I got good shaves but not excellent. I don't mind the smell once it mellows a bit. I have half another stick and won't buy it again.

Cella: Slick, cushiony, and easy to lather. It left my face smooth and moisturized. I'm not a fan of the smell but I loved the resulting shaves it gave. It didn't agree with my skin so I won't be getting it again. I used both the red tub and the EEP version from the Kilo block.

Rose of Bulgaria: Reminded me of Arko cream with more glycerin and a lot more perfume. Good shaves but nothing special, too much perfume.

LEA (old formula): Suddsy lather but good shaves, another cheap soap stick. I tried the new version, I got better shavesd than the old version but I wasn't impressed with it either.

I'm sticking with MWF and Cade for the future and hoping that D.R. Harris Arlington is a keeper.

MWF and Cade are some rock solid must have soaps.

I do enjoy a little more variety though.

With Arko I got in the habit of applying a thinner amount then loading the brush with something more fragrant then building lather. The Arko is a lather monster but when you mix in a nice scented soap you are in "shave heaven". Give that a shot before you run out of Arko and you may change your mind about keeping it around permanently.

I've done the whole "mix Arko with something else" thing and I've come to the point where I just want a soap out of the box that will consistently give me amazing lather without any tinkering. I got good shaves from Arko, don't get me wrong, I had to let it air out for who knows how long still mix it with another scented soap/cream to get the results I wanted. YMMV and all that.
