So after some time away from a straight razor I have now brought myself a Merkur Futur I'm now just waiting for it to arrive. What do you think good choice or not????

I have one and love it............ but you will have to wait and see how it performs for you. Hope that things go well.

If you have any useful tips that you dont mind sharing it would help ie: what blades settings and so on???

I love my Futur. It always ends up being my go-to razor.
Others come and go but the Futur stays.
what I like most about it is the weight.
It's very solid and can be a monster with a Feather if you're not careful.

A Futur is a fine razor. I've had one for several months now and it has been a consistently good razor.
The Futur is a bit aggressive, but if you can handle a straight you should be fine. Start off at the lowest setting and take it slow for the first shave.

Am I a little green or something
as people talk about "well this is one of my many" do I need to build a collection or something???? I thought once you got one you could dump the mach 3 and live as smooth as a babys bum nick free for the rest of your life!

It's a nice razor, if a little awkward under the nose and around the mouth. Try it at 1.5 to 2 to begin with and adjust from there. Blades are kind of a personal choice, IMO. I'd get a sample pack and try a few different ones.

The Futur is an awesome razor. I use mine on #3 setting and that works great with IP Reds, Crystals, and Derbys. Good luck with it. I really think you'll fall in love with it.

I love the razor. I've got it set at 2 with Derby's and I get an amazing shave. The thing is built like a tank. I have a goatee so not too sure about under the nose. The head doesn't feel that big to me though.

Well now its just a waiting game as its bank holiday Monday so that means mr postman has a day off and I think it will not arrive until at least Wednesday 
. But the company I brought it from seemed really helpful and did not do the hard sell thing and give me many different options and I had to ask about the futur.
I also ordered a pack of merkur blades. So should I order any others or just try these first

The Merkur razors have quite a following here. There is no doubt that Merkur manufacture some really fine products.
You should go with what you know and what works for you. I've not used any Merkur stuff myself other than blades but I personally would be happy to use a Futur or any of the more traditional looking razors.

Id stay away from merkur blades most folk don't get on with them.
Derby, crustal or my favourite super iridiums work great from me in the futur.
I use straights nowadays but every so often i hear the futur calling to me.

I started with Merkur blades and had a tough time. Not really sure if it was the razors or my poor technique. They didn't seem sharp enough to me.
