sorry for continuing to ramble on about ties but with my tie collection growing in numbers I'm eventually going to need a nice tidy place to put them. right now i've got about 7-8 draped on a coat hanger in the closet. are there any decent, compact tie racks out there worth buying?

May I suggest a battery operated, revolving tie rack. I don't recall where I got mine.

I use one similar to this...easy to find at most clothing stores. I only have about a dozen ties. It's perfect for me.
I use a cedar wall-mounted rack for mine. Those battery powered racks look quite interesting though.

My ties are put over the rod on which I hang my suits. I just searched through what is available these days and I must say I'd prefer what my dad used which was very basic but not available now. It was basically a five inch long "U" shaped block of wood with a base that mounted on the wall. Around this block of wood were about two dozen brass wire loops . . . much like the wire you would see on butterfly clips for paper. The wire loops were placed very close together but could move side to side a bit so you could see and select a tie.
