Thompson Cigars? Any Good?

Title pretty much says it all. I keep seeing ads for samplers from them in my NRA mags, and they seem like a pretty good deal, but are they really?

No.

Stay away, far away.

Thompson's is notorious for not taking care of their products. They're also well known for bombarding their Customers with phone calls nearly forcing them into buying into their "cigar of the month club".

If you want a good place, check out cigarsinternational.com or famous-smoke.com.

Take it from me, Cigars are my occupation.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for saving me the trouble. The only problem is now I don't know where to begin. The cigarillos actually look kind of nice, since they don't burn as long and they're more in my price range. So, naturally, there must be something wrong with them. Thing is, I'm just a bit new at this, so I don't know what it might be. For the record, these are the ones I'm looking at: http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CB-WVB3123-I&cat=168.
So, any more advice from the expert?

I am at work, and we blocks CI from our WiFi so customers would not shop online in our business. Can you post the name for me and I'll tell you?

Sure, Erin Go Bragh cigarillos, but feel free to recommend any others. I don't really know what I like in a cigar, but I'd imagine smooth and mild to medium would be a good place to start.

How much are you looking to spend for a tin of cigarillos and how many do you hope to get from that tin? 10 cigarillos? 20 of them?

Typically they come in 10 or 20 packs.

Well, I kind of wanted to keep the cost down, in case this isn't my bag. Maybe $20 for 20? Is that even possible?

$20 for 20 is pretty reasonable. Check out some Don Diego Cigarillos.

They're mild and still flavorful. Later you may move on to Rocky Patel 1990's, Montecristo, etc.

How about the Don Tomas? The Don Diegos don't come in bundles less than 60, which is a little much for me.

Got it. Well, it looks like I'm starting off with some Don Tomas Coronitas.
ETA: Never mind. It appears you have to be 21 to order cigars online for some reason. I guess I'll just have to try finding some of them locally.

Just as a suggestion here . . . forget cigarillos entirely.

They will tend to be machine rolled and short filler, two things you never want to hear in the same sentence as "cigar." Plus the small size means they'll burn hotter and taste harsh.

Find a local cigar shop, and look into "petite coronas" and tinned "juniors." Rocky Patel and Don Lino Africa tins have 5 and 4 cigars each, respectively, and they're REAL cigars, just smaller. Last about 20 minutes each, but give you a genuine cigar taste and smoking experience for every minute of it.

I tend to keep a tin on hand during colder weather.

I disagree.

The cigar burns hotter and harsher because it's smoked too quick. If you draw off of the cigarillo at the same pace you should a cigar (every 30-45 seconds) then you should not experience it getting hot and/or harsh.

+1 on JR Cigars try the Consuegra or the JR knock-off blends, also the line of Mr B's is a very decent smoke for the $.
