What's new

this got a little out of hand...

Ok, i know the most of you won't snear at me for this; but te girlfiend certainly raised her brows

I recently got a "i should try different soaps" thing in my head so i ordered MWF and Cella from Martin.
Given that these are still in the mail at the momet, this didn't cure the longing for new soaps

I thought this was still reasonable until earlier today i also dit an impulse buy of:
A tub of proraso and some mühle sea buckthorn.

Needless to say i cant wait till tomorrow morning:tongue_sm

(Also, is it weird for me not to like the smell of any of the 4 sandalwood soaps i sniffed in the store?
I was surprised because i really wanted to like them:blushing:)

You are in good company I think many on this board have gotten odd looks for out growing collections. My GF is thankfully understanding as she has 5 times as much crafting gear as I have for shaving, but not all of us are so lucky.

I dont care for Sandalwood at all. Its a classic sent but like anything else its a personal thing. My brother has AOS Sandalwood cream that is amazing. To my great shock I liked it enough to order an AOS Sandalwood soap....they were not the same not by a long shot. The soap itself was amazing, but to be honest I have not touched it since my initial test lathers with it.

Welcome to the club. My wife thinks I've lost my mind (so do I sometimes). I have enough soaps, creams, blades and razors to last the lifetimes of several people.

For me it's curiosity and not wanting to think what I could be missing out on.
You can never have too much of a good thing!

I don't think so. I'm not much of a fan of sandalwood, at least in shaving soap. One that I really enjoyed, however, is Edwin Jagger/ Muhle. By the way, they are the same soaps, so next time save yourself a couple bucks and get the EJ branded version.

I got away with my soap purchases, sort of. There are a few boxes stashed away in various places in the house. I didn't really keep them secret but somehow they seem to have multiplied. Some doors better kept close....:001_rolle

Though my wife gives me that look every now and then, I think she is well aware that a guy can have much worse as well as expensive hobbys.

And that is what your GF might consider too.

I got the refill for the mühle, around where i live it's actually cheaper than the EJ refill:)
Now i only have to find a mug to put it in :)

My last purchase I got caught out twice. Wanted an Irish Moos stick, £9 each or two for £14 and the postage was the same, so I bought 2. Then I noticed that if I added lime scented Old Spice cream to my order it only upped the postage by 50 pence, whereas on its own the cream would have been £2 postage. So by buying them all in one go, I did save money didn't I?

Incidentally, have used the Irish Moos a couple of times since getting it and it's excellent, IMHO - different scent but same quality as Tabac.

The only problem I see here is you don't have enough shave soap. Get more, lots more. Then start on creams. Some day you will have tried them all, (OK, not really, but that's the goal).

As far as sandalwood goes, I'm not a fan either.

If my wife were ever to mention my shaving supplies in a derogatory tone, I would only need to march her towards her pantry/storage room and all of her problems with my stash would evaporate.

hunh. it's likely to get worse.

the other day I counted... I have 51 unused bowls (filled), mugs (filled), & pucks... unused vintage/out of production soaps - these are my REFILLS - the back-ups - the extras.

I can't bring myself to count & catalog what is on the "in-use" shelf.

:lol::lol::lol:

I thought you were new here and just then I looked at your post count and membership date...You barely got started my friend, 51 pucks is somewhere around 2 or 3kg at most.

On the other hand it could be that my little collection got a bit out of hand.....:001_rolle

hmm. 51 pucks X 3.5 oz each = 178.5 oz /16 = 11.15 lb /2.2 = 5.0 kg.

You're right! That doesn't seem like much at all!!!!!!!

So. Yours is bigger? Let's see!

The smell of the Sea Buckthorn is so sweet, so nice.. it's almost magical.

Unfortunately, I get super red and irritated when I use it. Hope you like yours!

You got big pucks sir, but bigger than mine?:lol:

-32 Arko sticks (2.4 kg)
-0.6 kg left of P.160
-0.5 kg left of Cella
-9 sticks of Palmolive (0.45 kg)
-4 pucks of Williams (0.2 kg but working on more)
-4 pucks of VDH (0.3 kg)
-2 pucks and 1 stick of Tabac (0.350 kg)
-1 stick of IM (0.10 kg)
-3 tubs of Monsavon (0.375 kg)
-2 pucks of Feineseifen (0.150 kg)
-Speick, Vulfix, Godrej, Aus-Palmolive and some dutch stuff (apr. 0.4 kg)

The grand total (without the creams) is 5.35 kg. I am really happy it is more than what you have, sir :)biggrin:) but the margin is too tight for my taste!

I will have to get me a bigger margin!!

Even I think the amount of soap I have is ridiculous. It's just one of those things. You want to try something new and they last too long to wait for the old one to run out. They breed.

Oh yeah I am way under the 5kg absolute minimum amount I think.

I definately need to stock in a half dozen more MWF pucks and an equal number of Valobra sticks.

With only a half kg of Cella it seems almost a crime to not have a reserve kilo block.

I do have 1.3kg of CADE...and barely feel comfortable with that.

Do NOT criticize the cookware collection!

You will be a thin hungry man if you do so!

Criticize the shoe collection, purses, etc., but not the cookware!

You have been warned!
