What's new

Thinking this is an Old Type?

Bought this from a B&B brother to give an open comb a try. Really like the razor, but I'd like to know just what it is.

The handle has a patent date of January 13, 1920. As that's about the time my grandfather would have started shaving, it would be cool if that is indeed how old it is.

Looking on the date chart, it appear as if everything up to 1929 including ball end (which this is) was an Old Type.

Can anyone confirm and/or add anything to my admittedly amateur investigation?

I wondered about that, as it looked like a long comb. So maybe the handle is a mis-match?

And yes, it is a great razor.

No, it's right. The NEWs used the 1920 patent date because they still shared protected features with the New Improved, which that patent was originally for, and the other NEW-specific patents were still pending when they first started production.

There are a few variations of the new razor including variations of the heat itself, not just handle
