What's new

thinking of first Injector razor

I'm thinking of purchasing my first Injector Razor, but don't know where to start. Can anyone recommend a good brand and model to start with? Also, are there any decent brands of injector blades still being made? Or are all the good ones old stock?

I bought a Schick Injector from the 'bay a few months ago. It was gold colored with a bakelite handle that I paid about $12 and came with the case and an original looking blade.

I have purchased new Schick injector blades from the grocery store. It don't remember exactly what I paid, but it seemed a little expensive ($5 for 7 blades maybe?) There are some here who have found some new blades on the 'bay that are very inexpensive and reliable, but I had not gone that route.

The injector I have is not adjustable, and to me shaves a bit on the tame side. I use a Futur set on 6, so I prefer an aggressive shave and BBS. However for an easy, safe (I don't think I could cut myself with it), reliable DFS, the injector is a good razor.

The Schick L-types are mild but excellent shavers and often show up in this site's B/S/T forum. There's also usually a good assortment on eBay, but prices are much higher. If you require a more aggressive shave, the earlier E- and G-types will fit that bill.

As for blades, yes the good ones are the Schick NOS Plus Platinums, and current prices reflect their quality and increasing rarity. A lot of members here like the modern Ted Pella blades and the Chinese-sourced Schicks.

Pella:

(Product no. 121-4)
(These can also be found, I'm told, in local drugstores. Look back in thread history as to discussion of brand names, etc.)

Chinese Schicks:

(Walgreen's is supposed to carry these in some but not all stores. If looking locally, check the outer packaging for listing of country of origin. German-sourced blades are not as good.)

I use an old Eversharp-Schick injector from the 40s, and it's PLENTY aggressive. It'll bite if I'm not careful. But so far I like the shave a lot, better than what I got from DEs.

I buy Schick branded blades from drugstore.com. They come in packs of 7 blades and the cost is about 80 cents a blade or so. If you buy a number of packs the shipping is free.

By all means give an injector a try. If you need an aggressive shaver, look to the early models with the plastic or bakelite handle.

CVS on line advertises 11 blades for $4.19 which is about what my wife paid at the local store. They have worked o.k. for me and that's a bit of a price improvement.

I use one like michiganlover is listing.
