Thinking better of the Bluebirds now

I started my third, and probably final, test run on the Bluebirds last week. I have tried them in my Parker, Blue Tip, Slim and started this time in my Fatboy. All I can say is.....WOW! :w00t: I take back every bad thing i ever said about these blades. They don't work for me in my other razors, but in my Fatboy they give an incredibly smooth, close shave. When I stock up on blades in the next month or so, I will definitely be buying Bluebirds to keep on hand.

They are excellent for me in my HD and are cheap!

I got 100 off ebay for about $16. I could have gotten 4 fusion cartridges for that much... :tongue_sm

I like 'em a lot, too, especially in a Fatboy. Then again, I think a Fatboy can make almost every blade shave well. Something magical about them.

What a coincidence, I used a Bluebird for the first time today in my 34C. I got a great shave! Very close, not nicks and no tugging or pulling. I was thinking to myself that I hardly ever see comments about Bluebirds on the forum and then there was your post.

They are definitely going to be stocked in my shave den.

The only thing I can't get a good shave out of, in any razor, are Derbys. I guess my face just doesn't agree with them. The Bluebirds are really great though in the Fatboy, may the best blade I have found for that razor.

Some say the Bluebirds are comparable to Feathers. I have never tried Feathers, so I would not know. Up until now, I have preferred Sharks and Green Gillettes, but the shaves I am getting in the Fatboy with the Bluebirds have given me a third blade to consider.

I used a Feather once and it tore me up. I'll have to give one another go and see if with improved technique I can get better results.

I've had very good results with the Bluebird blades in a variety of Gillette razors, but they do seem to pull if I have 2-3 days beard growth.

Has it been decided yet if bluebirds are rebranded derbys or not?
There seems to be conflicting info around these parts.

Based upon my experience, they are absolutely not rebranded Derbys. No matter the razor, no matter anything, I get terrible, neck-ripping shaves from a Derby blade. In my Fatboy I get only great consistent shaves from the Bluebirds. The Bluebirds are sharper and smoother than the Derbys.

Thanks Ray!

I think the packaging and point of origin info strongly suggest that Bluebirds are indeed made by the same folks who make Derby blades.

However, until we get somebody who has been on the factory floor while the blades are produced, I don't think that's the same as saying they are Derby blades rebranded. There may well be physical differences between them.

I think they are fine blades, but for some reason they seem to leave me with lots of weepers and shave no closer than my preferred blades.

Not a knock on Bluebirds, but merely another testimonial to the truth of YMMV.

Having tried both, BBs seem sharper and smoother to me and I'd be tempted to get some for stock. However, if made by Derby, I'm concerned about QC issues that I had with the 100 of Derby I had some time ago.

Oh great! Now you've done it! Next thing you know, Cory will be posting house pictures!

eeeeekkkkkkkkkk!!

:lol::lol::lol:

It's the end of the world as we know it!

So far, I haven't had any issues with the the packs I have had. It is possible that they are made by the same company. Why is it so hard to find out who actually makes some of this stuff?

Add me to the list who loves these and thinks that of course they are not the same as Derbys but are made by the same company. It's clear to me at least they are not rebranded but made with new specs and maybe slightly different coatings and packaged for sale in UAE, where I'm sure Derbys would have already been available and known.?

Of course, I could be talking out of my sphincter. :tongue_sm

I love the blue birds. I am rotating between the blue birds and Shapr right now. I like both of these blades better than a Derby. To me, they are both better shaves than the Derby.

Heard on other posts that they might or might not be made by Derby;that the coatings could be the reason that they are sharper- 5 Different coatings.Just finished shave#4 with them in my Gillette New and still shaving FANTASTIC.But don't tell anybody-its our secret.

Bluebirds are excellent in my Fatboy, which is my main razor now. I see no similarities between the BBs and Derbys. None at all.

OTOH, I have found BlueBird and Derby quite similar. The sound while shaving is nearly the same, as are the results. Feathers have practically no cutting sound. I like All 3. Bluebirds and Derbys seem better in a more aggressive razor like a Red Tip or a Parker. Feathers and a Blue Tip are heaven for me.....
