What's new

Things we know about New Jersey

Went to college there (Princeton, NJ)

NJ is one of the few places I know of where people in the "Garbage" biz wear Italian suits, drive Cadillacs/Lincolns, and appreciate a good cannoli.

I was born there also. My very early years were spent in Millburn (back when Short Hills was PART of Millburn and NOT the good part but the 'new' part!) Escaped to South Florida at an early age!

Attractive women fall for less than interesting men because they don't know realize there's anyone better......Never seen so many pear-shaped mullet-sporting guys walking around with beautiful women on their arms.......damn it!

I would respond, but I'm too busy packing...

I hitchhiked through New Jersey back in the late 60's and early 70's. Other than the areas around Newark and Camden, I thought the state was rather nice. We got rides right away and the people were great.

Ain't it the truth!!!!!

Bruce Willis.
I knew Bruce Willis in college. He was an entirely different person back then. More of a Richard Simmons wanna-be than the macho-stud he became later on.

This was at Montclair State College, 1973 ... long before it became a University.

The paragraph is our friend.
Interesting stuff, but hard on the eyes.

High Point - we're not very creative with names here, is approximately 1800 feet above sea level. Highlands is I believe that honor belongs to Katahdin, the mountain of the people of Maine which stands at 5,267 feet above sea level and is the Northern Terminus of the Appalachian Trail. Maybe it depends the definition of "Eastern Seaboard", and even then I would be fairly certain that Cadillac Mountain, on Maine's Mount Desert Island has a higher elevation.

Union City has roughly 60,000 people, maybe not even that many. Even if everyone were Cuban, and wishing they were doesn't count, I would venture to guess there are still more Cubans in La Habana than Union City.

Great dogs! how about JJ"s hot dog truck on Bloomfield Ave in Branchbrook Park in Newark. Had to get a dozen onions and cheese the day before I moved to Negril, Jamaica.

Man, I feel sorry for the people next to you on that flight if you what I will politely refer to as "personal methane expulsions" aboard the flight. :w00t:

For those of you from out of state, either passing through NJ, or visiting, you should remember that passing on the right in NJ is illegal.

The Left Lane on the NJ Turnpike and major Interstates is the HIGH SPEED PASSING LANE - it is not a "I am going to do the speed limit" lane.

If you're doing the Speed Limit on I80 which is called simply "80" here, you'll get run over.

280 is known as the most dangerous road in the state.

Be prepared for traffic to go from 65 MPH to ZERO in seconds.

It is illegal to pump your own gas. We have Service Station Attendants who do that.

We don't put vinegar on our French Fries.

We have a Moroccan bakery producing Cuban bread, Portugese Rolls, Croissants and Bagels.

We have Cuban-Chinese restaurants.

Bergen County, especially Paramus have strict Blue Laws on Sunday limiting what you can buy and what stores are open.

In less than a half mile along Hoboken's Washington Street, you can find several Italian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Indian restaurants. You can also find two gourmet burger joints and a McDonald's. In addition there is a German restaurant with a huge selection of beers.

...but finding a place to park in front of any of them will be completely impossible.
