Thief! Stop!

So as I was sitting here surfing B&B at my local coffee house. I look out to my left and see a movement that otherwise would not have aroused my curiosity as many people walk by to cross the street. For some reason I look up to see a young punk with a pair of bolt cutters ready to do the deed on this bike out there. Well I get up in a hurry while asking patrons who's bike is outside about to get stolen. Two old timers follow me out and the P.O.S. must have seen me get up because he took off running. I was not about to chase him. Although I'm able run fast and could have caught him not worth it except for satisfying my ego. People thanked me in the coffee shop while a patron offered me a refill. Lol. I wish this hadn't been my second cup! Sigh. Not a "good" way to start a day. I mean it is & isn't. Just venting. Thanks for reading.

Be glad you didn't catch him. if he's stealing bikes on Main street with bolt cutters in broad daylight his cogs ain't turnin too smooth. He may have had a weapon.(Besides the bolt cutters)

Do you and your friend take turns being the "thief" so the one who plays the good guy can get free drinks?

Thanks guys. What I appreciated the most was as I turned around the two old timers were there. We didn't know each other but having "back up" was cool. I'm greatful for people of that generation who still care.

Nice job. Good for you. It is a shame that more people like you do not exist. Most people would have just sat there. I also think you did well by not chasing him. The last thing you need is a lawsuit.

Good to see I'm not the only one having a bad morning. I had just finished working an all-nighter shift at my bolt cutting job, naturally I just wanted to get on my bike and ride home so that I could get to bed. Out of nowhere this crazed guy, all hopped up on at least two cups of coffee, starts yelling all kinds of obscenities and threats at me! Needless to say I took off as quick as I could. I could have confronted him but it wouldn't have been worth it except for satisfying my ego.

The oddest part is that my dad and two of his friends were at the coffee shop. They got up and stood right behind the guy, but in the end they must have decided to just let it go – the guy was flailing his arms wildly and looked pretty out of it....

This beats what I saw in the morning.
I was driving to work from the gym and as I drove by a hospital I saw a barefoot man with a patient's smock briskly walking while showing his bums to the world while two elderly nurses were after him. I don't know what a good Samaritan would do with that....

Good Job...your alertness and action is to be commended. Had someone else been sitting in your seat, my money says the bike would have been taken. Too many people these days are afraid to get involved and are quite content with just being the by-stander "I saw it all! He went that way!" Thank you for not being "the by-stander"!

On a side note, it's generally not a good idea to go chasing after crooks who are running away. He may be better at street fighting than he is at bike stealing, and he may be armed with more than just a bolt cutter (and a well-swung bolt cutter can be deadly too.)

The OP handled this one just right.
