I call my full winter beard "winterwear", been rocking it from about November thru March every year for the last 25+ years and I tell you, when I'm outside, during winter sports, especially with winds, a solid beard is a big plus to have for helping keeping the face warmer!
As for keeping your face too hot during the warmer parts of the year, think of it like a dog's coat, they shed to a thinner coat for the summer, then shed and grow a thicker coat for the winter, keeps them cozy all year round (for most, not all dogs), same can apply to humans! (Grabs a hair removing roller as the dog moves away from my shirt leaving clumps of hair behind!)

I think it's a wind chill thing. Doesn't necessarily provide any insulation from the cold temperatures, but maybe from the wind? I live in the AZ, so I wouldn't really know.
I grow a full beard when it gets cold and it keeps my face warm.
It is not a myth. Much like some of the other member shave said I also shaved towards the end of a winter and what a difference it was. Beards=winter warmth
A beard definitely helps with winter insulation. How could it not?
