What's new

The three typical DE razors in a collection?

So far I have a Gillette late-40's NDC Super Speed*

2. The Merkur XR4Ti 34C ?
3. ?

* I also have a Gillette black handle flare tip that was PIF'd to me so I will therefore PIF it onward here soon.

If you go vintage it would be:
1. Gillette Adjustable (Fat, Slim, or Super)
2. Tech (any variety)
3. Super Speed (50's or 60's)

Modern:
1. EJ89
2. Merkur 34C
3. R41

For me so far its
2 x Ball end Olds (one gold one silver)
1 x Late sixties Slim Twist (Boxed)
1 x Early Sixties Slim Adjustable

As I'm going through a bad case of RAD at the moment the list is liable to change:blushing:

I agree with Krona on the vintage end:

Some sort of super-speed (a 40's or flair tip)
Some sort of tech / tech-clone (ball-end, bar handle, aluminum handle, triangle or straight slot, whatever the case may be)
Some sort of adjustable

If you go vintage it would be:
1. Gillette Adjustable (Fat, Slim, or Super)
2. Tech (any variety)
3. Super Speed (50's or 60's)

Modern:
1. EJ89
2. Merkur 34C
3. R41

I heartily concur! I have all the vintage Gillette's. Still, need to acquire my modern tools!

What? No open comb?

How dare you...KEN!!!!! no Open Combs. Get him!

I would change up that mix some!!!...I think you need some Open combs in that mix!!

You already have a 40's NDC SS ( that takes care of mild and smooth non open combs!)

Vintage:

1. Gillette 1930's LC NEW
2. Gilette Slim
3. Super Speed (40' NDC)

Modern:
1. Merkur 1904 OC or 2010 Muhle R41 ( same head design)......as smooth and mild as the DE89
2. Fatip ( Read all the Fatip love in recent post....a really underrated razor...)
3. Muhle 2011 R41 ( the most efficient razor ever made.... highly effective, and smooth once technique is learned)

So You ask why all the Open combs in my list??

.....because

and you really don't want to get Templar cat angry ....

For me it would be..

Vintage:
1. Leresche #77 flat out the best shaver i have.
2. Brit aristocrat either OC or guard.
3. Adjustable i prefer to use the slim over a FatBoy..

Modern.
1. erm don't have anything more modern than a 70's knack but with so much vintage stuff available to buy at great prices i don't see the need to buy modern.

Haw!
My first metal-work class there was a woman fabricating helmets for her cats. She was a crazy cat lady with a purpose.

My 3 Combs:
Gillette Old Type;
Gillette Long Comb New;
Fatip Grande.
