The Terrorists Have Won!

The goal of terrorism is not to kill people. The goal is to disrupt the normal lives of people and to make them fearful that something might happen. Our lives have not returned to normal since 9/11, so I have to agree with the OP that terrorists have succeeded in their mission of disrupting our lives.

It's been 18 years since 9/11. An entire generation has grown up in a post 9/11 world and know no different. I'd make the argument that how we live now IS the norm.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Amongst other changes, a generation of Americans know nothing else but being scanned/searched at airports. Our way of life in America has changed due to 9-11/terrorism, no arguing otherwise.

When I travel carry-on I take a Mach3 cartridge razor

He's exaggagerating to vent frustration at an annoying shave-related situation on a shave forum. You're doing the exact same thing by saying, "Don't like it then don't fly." It's almost never that simple. Some of us are forced to travel for work, not pleasure, and we're not given the option of mode of transportation. Sometimes you forget your favorite razor in your dopp kit and it's confiscated and it sucks. I lost a favorite zippo to customs in Rwanda because I forgot to take it out of my bag. That sucks. First world problem? Sure. Does the fact that it's a first world complaint make it suck less? No. I've been blessed by the grace of God to live in a first world country where my third world problems are provided for and I want my zippo back.

This is a first world forum dealing with a first world lifestyle. The amount of money some people spend on their collections and products here is astounding to me. They may be big on wet shaving out of necessity in third world countries, but I guarantee many of them aren't able to spend the money on it to buy the same quality products we do. I'm a dollar store shopper using the same Merkur 25C for the past ten years. But I'd never go on somone's aquisition post and tell them to stop rubbing their first world lifestyle in everyone's face. I just say, "Oh, that's neat," and I move on to the next thread.

If you don't like to hear about people's problems then skip the thread. Don't make them feel inferior for seeking a bit of solidarity from the one place that should understand their situation.

It's a law of nature that every website has its smart-***.

well said, we all need to vent. I also think "I want my zippo back" is going to be my new catchphrase.

As a veteran I understand the dislike for the phrase "The terrorists won" but we also fought for the freedoms that we have today including the freedom of speech. So if someone feels like blowing off a little steam than it should be ok

I’ve always just checked my bags, even on an overnight. Always afraid of the security asking me to unload my bag in front of hundreds of passengers and my tighty whiteys fall out.

The unfortunate thing is that there is no consistency in what is/isn't allowed in carry-on between countries and even between airports within the same country and/or their security staff.

I like the suggestion of a DE razor without blade. I might try that in a couple of weeks when I will be passing through 5 airports within 16 days.

Vent away.

I had a money clip confiscated in Detroit Metro airport in 2004 that my dad gifted me. It was equipped with a nail file and a full blade less than two inches long. The police officer (I think he was Detroit city) looked at me sheepishly as he told me I couldn't carry it on.

The OP is correct. Bogeyman is wrong. Yes, I have appointed myself the judge of this thread, and I suppose I'm as rude as Bogeyman.

I'm a little sorry if I've hurt anyone's feelings, but honestly, that is a first world problem.

I apologise. I see that I have broken my newly made resolution. I did not behave as Mr Rogers would.

Please forgive me Mr @Bogeyman . I acted the arse that I so often am.

Although I understand the frustration, theres bigger problems in life than whether or not you can take your wet shaving gear with you when you fly.
When I travel, I still pack a brush and soap but I pack a single blade disposable instead of my DE. It gives me the same experience and the TSA doesnt hassle me about it.

It saddens me that we live in the greatest time on planet Earth's history, and yet being free is limited by bureaucrats with bad breath and bad attitudes. And small brains.

And to paraphrase Ronald Reagan:

"There I go again!"

I totally agree with the OP with regards to ‘The terrorists have won’. What’s worse, is that they can’t be beat as they are an unknown enemy. Big brother will only get bigger. We live in sad, yet exciting times. I try living each day as it may be my last.

The number of our days are one at a time my friend.

Don't blame the TSA because you didn't read the rules. They are not to blame.

This thread was meant to be about carrying wet shaving gear in carry-on. I didn't realise the title would be so emotive to some members.

Terrorism still seems to touch a raw nerve with some Americans. That I can understand. I lost an uncle in the 7/11 attack and a cousin in the 2008 Mumbai bombings.

I apologise if the title has upset some of you. That was not my intention.
