Nice find! Amazing to think / see that some of the razors shown there are still in use (by us nuts) today.

Giving this old thread a bump as I just happened across the same article, and it's really a fantastic read. I love how the author slags off the Gillette, and how he says he's been using the same blade in his GEM Junior lather catcher for over a year! The article was at a perfect point in history where there were still plenty of players in the marketplace vying for dominance.

I'll also drop in this direct link to the article on Google Books, since it looks like the PDF Joe originally linked to got over-compressed and the photograph came out rather crunchy.
 
I find it very ironic that we put so much faith in the Gillette type safety razors when according to this writing they were held in relatively low esteem by seemingly many who were "in the know" when it came to proper shaving. I wonder what the author would think of that style razor today given the great improvement in blade quality. Of course he would complain that we had to constantly buy new blades. Think of what he'd say about cartridge razors! :scared:
