The Sixteenth Annual One Blade in February Challenge

#5 with the Mühle blade. I feel a bit behind the curve because I’ve been in Vegas for the past 4 days but, this blade is performing quite well so far. Managed to get a BBS with it today.

Feather(10)
Merkur 34c

This is the first time that I have ever pushed a feather to double digits. I'm really struggling with this blade, but not in the way I thought I would. I thought it would be nicks, weepers, and irritation. It's not. I'm struggling with longevity. What I mean is my five o'clock shadow return after a few hours, and be the end of my workday I look like I haven't shaved at all. Any advice guys?

A couple of things. You could switch to a more efficient razor, or vary the period between shaves. I am unsure myself whether a daily shave is less stressful to the edge. I tend to go 2-3 days per shave.

Razor: FaTip Piccolo OC (Italy)
Blade: Personna Platinum Chrome (ISR #17)

I broke out the Piccolo tonight after a long time. Too long neglected. A great smooth shave resulted. I had forgotten just how sweet a little shaver it was. Gentle and nicely efficient.

The blade is holding up well. I have begun cleaning the edge before storage, gently removing any residue. The edge is smooth and buttery now. Cutting power is diminishing but reluctantly.

I think it will get to the end of month.

...but this one IS cracked.

One Blade In February Challenge #10
Muhle Monday
MdC Monday

Razor:
Muhle Rocca R94
Blade: Personna Platinum (10)
Brush: Muhle Rocca R94 STF
Soap: MdC Original
Post Shave: Nivea Hyaluron Creme
A/S: Davidoff Cool Water

Swapping to the Rocca from the R89 made a noticeable difference to the finish of my shave. I got a much closer finish without much effort on my part, the razor did most of the work for me. It was great to use the Rocca set again and just get an epic shave with little effort, though I did learn to slow down a bit from my previous shaves so I could enjoy it

OBIF shave 10

1918 Gillette ball-end Old Type
Kai (10)
Semogue Owner's Club boar brush
Perfectly Natural Soap--Bay Rum, bowl lathered

1/3 of the way through OBIF. I'm getting nice close shaves with this blade but it feels a little rough. Maybe it's just the aggressiveness of this Old Type. Trying a different razor tomorrow.

Last shave with the Super Speeds I thought the Yellow 7 was about done.
I guess not, I went back to the Sentry tonight and got my DFS again !!

Rex Sentry Slant
Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellow (5)
B & M Seville I'm liking this soap alot !
Omega 10049 Boar - The Lather Hog
Thayers WH Original - I cant smell anything in this stuff...wondering why they make an unscented ?

Today's shave:

Gillette Knack (made in England)
BIC Chrome Plat #10
Denim shaving foam
Varon Dandy lotion

10 out of 10
Mild but very efficient combo. I got clean BBS results in 2.5 passes (still, I do a lot of strokes, tbh). The blade is living its best life, it's all good for at least a couple of weeks as I remember

Have a nice day! :cuppa:

Tuesday morning OBiF shave #5 (rated 9.5/10) using:
  • Razor: Razorock Mamba 53 (smoothness is its standout trait)
  • Blade: Early 1960s Comet Super Stainless made by Okava Enterprises (maker of Israeli Eddison blades) in its short-lived Irish factory (5)
  • Brush: APShaveCo Angelic Harp G5C synth (thank you @Guido75)
  • Pre-shave: Proraso Rinfrescante
  • Soap: Proraso Rinfrescante cream (very slick)
  • Post shave: Thayer’s Coconut Witch Hazel followed by Ogallala Bay Rum Sandalwood splash and Duke Cannon mentholated balm
PXL_20250211_131337560.jpg
A very balanced shave with slight demerits on smoothness and efficiency. The blade feels a little harsh, even in the supremely smooth Mamba 53. And extensive touch ups were needed to get a uniform BBS. The good news is that I did attain a BBS finish without meaningful irritation, even with all the extra passes over my skin (that's the Mamba).

The Rinfrescante combo of preshave and cream did its typical job, very competent but not outstanding. Slickness is the calling card of this pairing to me.

My shave scoring log is found HERE.

Happy shaves everyone :badger:

Notes:

Great results altogether - touching BBS- levels.

So the Comet is an effective blade, but also mild in usage. It is not overly sharp or aggressive at least.

Enjoy your shave today!
