I have used “iko, iko an day” as the response to “my friend’s boyfriend slit his wrists today,” so you’re not wrong, Jay

Dog What GIF by MOODMAN

Not a good day for our favorite Thombot. Hmm, time for therapy. Also, a friendly hug 🫂 is in order as well.

We had an early supper at our favorite little Mexican place. Came home and gathered some brush to burn in the fire pit. Also was delighted to see that the dragonflies have discovered the bamboo stakes I put out for them to perch on.

Patting myself on the back a bit as the pit was full of fairly wet 1.5 to 2" diameter logs and branches and I was able to judiciously get it down to this.

Inaugural shave with the Feon was really, really nice. I knew the edge was blazing sharp off the stones but it was really smooth too. I'd call it a quarter hollow grind, just a hair more hollow than the Eiko I used yesterday but honestly it shaves more like a half hollow. Very interesting. Soap was Proraso. New Nacet in the R41. Finished with the Veg and it's cool today so I broke out Stirling Varen EDT. I usually consider that a Labor Day to Memorial Day scent, so I'm only a day early.

Be well.

I really wanted to use that Feon again but some of my other razors were feeling neglected. So I used one of my Törnbloms today. It was pretty nice although I felt like I had to work a little harder here and there. R41/Nacet took care of the neck cleanup, and in retrospect, that was pretty quick. So I guess the Törnblom was pretty effective.

Used my newly refreshed Vielong brush today. There's still a hint of blue in the bristles from the first stain experiment but I think it will fade with use. I did see a spot along the top of the rim that I missed, I'll fix that once it dries. Looks nice, though.

Be well.

Pulled out my other Törnblom today. This one had a pretty rough life although it wasn't used much, was covered in rust when I got it and then I managed to crack the scales when I disassembled it. But it makes me really happy to shave with it, and it always delivers. Thinking back to yesterday's shave, I felt like that razor struggled a bit, but man, my skin felt great all day and it was a very close, long-lasting shave. Today's shave feels pretty similar although this razor is a bit stiffer so the actual shaving sensation is a little different and felt more efficient in the moment. Proraso again for the soap. Once I got it well-hydrated the scrubby badger didn't feel all that scrubby. I got a break between my second and third passes to brush the tangles out of the newly-minted second grader's hair. So I need to rehydrated the whiskers before finishing up. But overall it was a great result, the third shave on the Nacet in the R41 was just right. I have been tossing blades after three shaves for a few weeks now and while I feel bad being wasteful, I've had a lot more consistent results. Finished up with the Veg.

Listened to some of Will the Circle Be Unbroken by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Feels nice to come back to it.

Be well.

My other recent purchase arrived yesterday: Favorit 3000, made by Tanifuji. It caught my eye as soon as it was listed by a US vendor. Price was decent, it's been used but not heavily. I'm frankly not sure if he realized it was a Tanifuji because I would have expected him to price it higher. Anyway. I keep telling myself I am not a collector but I fully gave in to the collecting aspect here, one because I have a bunch of nice Japanese razors but no Tanifujis (the Shell I have is stamped Perfect Works which was a brand he was associated with, and it is rather similar in design). The other part is that I had an orphan Favorit box that came with one of my other razors. So it seemed like it was meant to be.

It did have a micro-frown. I suspect that it's because the blade is rather long and whoever originally owned and honed it didn't keep the heel on the stone enough. I planned on honing it anyway, and the hair test out of the box was kind of lackluster, so I spent some time on it last night. The frown is pretty much gone but I think I will give it another round on the lower/mid grits just to get it exactly where I want it. Shave was very nice, though. I finished it on my Escher and it gave up a nice, crispy edge. Once I get the geometry fully ironed out I'll probably finish it on my translucent ark.

MdC Rose was the suds today, mostly face-lathered with the Simpson's Emperor. Cleanup with a new Feather in the R41. I can't remember if I've used a Feather in that razor and I'm too lazy to look back. It was very efficient and the blade feel did a nice job of reminding me to use a light touch. No issues, no drama, very close. Finished up with Bignoli.

Listened to Mary Stuart's Busy Bee Cafe after I got the kids dropped off.

Be well.

Not made for these times.

Beautiful razor, Matt.

And going all the way back to 1982 with Marty. :thumbup1:

I spent a little more time honing the Favorit last night, got the geometry fully sorted out now. I finished it on the Escher again, then decided to continue on to the translucent ark. It is a very nice edge, not a whole lot different than the Escher edge in this case, maybe a little smoother. But it's consistent from end to end now and that's what I was aiming for. Between being half hollow and having a slightly longer blade, this razor feels nice and substantial.

I used my RR400 today, remembered to mostly bowl lather the Proraso Red which avoided the possibility of brush burn I sometimes get from this one. Cleanup with the R41 and Feather; second day on the Feather was a little less pleasant. Not bad but a little closer to the bone than I wanted. Got some minor sting from the Bog Water for my efforts but it faded fast.

Be well.

Frameback Friday means we almost made it through another week. I used my Heljestrand today, it was very smooth and no drama. I may need to drill out the pivot pin and repin it as it is pretty floppy, and since it was pinned without collars, there's only so much peening you can do before the pin starts to pull through these hard rubber scales. I kind of hate drilling out pins. I've had a rather poor record of success, so far. I guess I could always make new scales if these crack. But, more likely, I'll throw it back in the drawer and forget about it until next time.

Soap was MdC Rose, I think this one may have the edge for being my current favorite. Whipped it into shape with the Rudy Vey/Semogue boar. That was really nice too. Cleanup with a fresh Durasharp in the R41 Was notably less sharp then the Feather but equal portions more comfortable and safe feeling. Finished with the Veg (of course).

The boy child, who was noncommittal about having me help move him in to college, is now thinking maybe he'd like me to be there. I'll have to talk it over with his mother this weekend. We'd take separate cars so it wouldn't be as awkward as it could be. He leaves a week from Monday...his anxiety is starting to build finally (he's a procrastinator like me).

Listened to (well, started listening to) Gillian Welch and David Rawlings's new album Woodland. It's been several years since they put out an album of originals and I think it maybe was worth the wait. First impressions are very, very good. More thoughts when I've had a chance to listen more.

Be well.

For a long time public schools couldn't start until after labor day. Now I think they can if they want but most of them don't. I don't know what the deal is with Northwestern University, I think classes start on the 24th. Which seems kind of ridiculous.

You know, I am so glad that I graduated school when I did. Because I read an article yesterday, about the many changes to public schools now days, that kids have to contend with, that are honest on the level of a strict private school. I can't believe the levels of restrictions that stifle kids freedoms.

You should read the articles on how kids can't wear all black clothing and hoodies anymore throughout the entire country, yeah, its a new rule. As an extension of that, there are all sorts of other clothing that are no longer allowed, that were perfectly fine in my time! Its basically private school levels of clothing restrictions, without the uniform.

Then, cell phones? Even though cell phones have been a thing, now they have to be locked up in maglock safe baggies, that can only be unlocked at the office. Sound like Federal government levels of restrictions! Yeah, apparently schools have been supposedly have so many problems with kids on their phones during class, that now they have to lock them up.

Many parents are fighting on that one, because they worry incase of an emergency, they can't get ahold of their kids. What if this country suddenly was at war with another, are the kids going to be able to get their cell phones, when their locked up in Fort Knox style maglock safe baggies? Unbelievable!

I am so glad that I am not a kid these days, the amount of stress I'd be under going to school, would put me in a mental institution. I went through a lot of stress dealing with bullies back in school, but what these kids have to go through today, unbelievable. Strict clothing restrictions, cell phone restrictions.

Oh I got another one for you, want to touch up your face or hair if your a girl or guy in the bathrooms? Well, you can no longer do that, because most schools have removed mirrors in the bathrooms, they say its to make the kids safer. If you hair was all out of wack, your never going to know about it, unless you carry a personal mirror now, which I am sure, thats considered contraband, if kids safety is the thing now days!

They also state that they don't like it that bathroom are common meet up, hang out points. Dude, they always were when I was in school, and that was mostly for the girls, not the boys. Oh heaven is crashing down upon on cause kids are hanging out in the bathrooms, oh the sky is falling. You know what? When the first bell rang, we always got in our classrooms, in time for the final bell, it wasn't a problem.

So what has this country done to our schools now post 911? I tell you what they've done, they've turned public school, into a dang jailhouse. They even lock the doors now with mag locks, because post 911, they fear anybody shady coming into the schools, even though every school has a licensed to use a gun police officer on guard. Unbelievable what this country has come to.

Just know people, when you send your kids to school, your actually sending them to jail. And they wonder why our kids get such low test scores now days, that they have to lower the SAT requirements, in order for kids to pass. Duhh! I say again, thank God that I am not in school these days, for the changes that have been made, have seriously triggered me.

Can you tell? lol
