What's new

The savings keep adding up!

Because the more I spend the more I save! Right?

So far I have purchased two razors, 4 brushes, two lather bowls, two soap bowls, a puck of soap, and some razor blades for approximately $100.

Previously I was spending about $8 a year for a pack of cartridges and one can of Barbasol.

So my savings so far are a negative $90! :scared:

At the rate that I am going I will be amazing the financial wizards. I still need lots of product and enough blades to last another fifty years. This hobby rocks!

At least the shaves are worth a million bucks!

Two bowls and one puck? Sounds like you need to buy more soap.

Yeah, I'm planning ahead. I try to be forward-thinking. I need some shaving sticks too, forgot to mention that.

Oh I bought a bunch of extra large spring loaded broom clips too. Gotta keep the brushes happy. I have to dig up some shrink tube now to cover the grippers. Muahaha.

Ah, but this is FUNNY accounting. There are three types of accounting: negative & positive.....Your obviously focused on the third.:biggrin1:

Sell the bowls! You need the money for more brushes.

The lathering bowls weren't a major expense. Twenty five cents for one at the thrift store until I found the awesome black plastic salsa bowl at Wally World for a buck fifty! I'm set in this regard, and even have a backup.

I just liked the looks of the wooden soap bowls, my tupperware unit now looks really chintzy. This isn't a hobby, its a quest!

I picked up that plastic salsa bowl too. The cool thing is, after about 10 bowls of lather with a nice scritchy brush, it'll make the bowl a little rougher and it'll work BETTER. Or hit it with some rough sandpaper.

Oh look I just happened to find a quarter sheet of 100 grit out in the garage :devil2:

One pack per year? Wow!! If I may ask, how many carts in the pack, and how often did you shave?

Well, I used those carts to death. Plus I have an electric which I used most of the time. So yeah about one pack a year. I just relied on the Quattro for times when my beard was too heavy for the electric, and it failed miserably. Four blades for hairs to get jammed into, and no real way to flush them out. Horrible design.

Ahhh, an electric as well. I'm sure plenty of others can relate to the "get the last out of a cart" approach. So do you use DE blades to death, or are you more face-friendly? Has your shave improved?

I toss the DE blades after three shaves at the moment. I could probably be a bit more liberal about it and wait until I nick myself, but at the moment I am all about trying different kinds of blades. It was never about saving money anyways, although I truly dislike purchasing a new pack of cartridges. I will soon be ordering some 100 packs of DE blades once I find ones that I like.

Yes my shave has improved dramatically. My face hasn't been this smooth since I was a boy, and I am amazed that razor burn is mostly nonexistent. It has taken me a while to learn not to scrape without some suds, but once I began following that wisdom things really shaped up.

$100???? Eat less. Take the bus. You need to seriously up your cash flow into shaving supplies. Minimally you're 5 pucks down.

Well there's your problem, the Quattro. You need to switch back to the Mach 3, being able to flush the cart directly from behind is the greatest innovation in the history of cartridge razors. I could only shave once every 2-3 days with carts and if I did my whole face I was easily capable of killing even a Mach 3 in one or two shaves but at least I wasn't spending more time trying to rinse out the cart than I was actually shaving. Don't even get me started on electrics though, about the only benefit I ever saw to them was that they are faster than tweezing my face and only slightly less painful.

I've saved a veritable fortune by not being able to afford to vacation because of shaving purchases and besides, food is here and gone while my razors will easily last my lifetime.... Easily.... :a36:
