The Return of Burly Begins

I just won an unused bottle of Old Spice Burly from Ebay. I have been looking for this stuff a long time and hope it is as advertised. My intentions are to re-create it since P&G won't listen to me and bring it back out.
I hope the Sample is close enough to fresh( 1966?) so the Lab can analyze it and give me a decent Recipe to work with. I am sure there will be many trial and error before this elusive scent again sees' the light of day.
Yes, I am ripping off a scent, it has to be done. In 67 when my Pop received a Christmas gift box of Burly me and my Brother fought over it and ignored the "other" Old Spice in the medicine cabinet. Memories drive normally sane men to do weird things.
Burly will live again, one way or another.

Good luck with your project, Pungo. Are you going to have a perfumer recreate Burley for you or are you going to attempt to make it yourself?? Please keep us posted on how this effort goes.

I think if I could bring back any scents I would recreate the Shulton Old Spice and the original Pinaud Lilac Vegetal. Both were really something and it's a shame they don't exist anymore.

It would be great if P&G would reintroduce the O/S line--soaps, talc, Lime, Burley. I guess Swagger is the best we can do these days!

you cannot patent a "scent"...only the packaging and name...the big boys that copy famous scents use a gas chromatograph mass spectrometer...the results are 96-98 % accurate....many muslim countries use this method, and then eliminate the alcohol from the formula, and replace it with vegetable gycerine and/or skin soothing oils....other small fry produce "identical copies" with different names, and legally sell their duped perfumes and colognes as "our version of ....." to eliminate any spectre of lawsuits...without a really high class spectrometer ,you will never achieve a decent copy...GOOD LUCK !!

The Company I work for uses several high-end Labs to analyze Products, I'm gonna try and "Slip in" as a gratuity Client. Yes, I have no shame.
I didn't even know such a thing as a Perfumer existed. We get a recipe, follow it in the amounts required, then tweak it for performance.
That is why I have such high hopes for this bottle. It usually requires at least 3 samples but this stuff is rare as hens teeth and none of the Collectors here have offered to join this quest( hint, want in?).
I can't steal the Name though so have settled on 3 contenders. I would like the bottle to look like the Ocracoke lighthouse.

Cool! I would like to find more Burley, or something nearly identical, for a reasonable price. At least I have an NOS bottle that I am milking along.

I have a feeling Commodore Decker would have been a Burley guy.

If you can dupe this, Shultonians will beat a path to your door.

Was that you running up the price? I hope I won something besides a stale alcohol smell.
If it has been done, that is duplicated, I wish I knew where, it would save me a lot of trouble. I'm not trying to get rich, introducing a (ahem) new scent in the current Market would take a lot of time, bucks, and luck.
What I need until this gets here is a review of Burly(or Bounty, English version).
Certain Members here have described it as "Sweeter smelling compared to Original Old Spice" as well as " Love potion number 9".
I remember it being like Old Spice on steroids, stronger, more manly, outright, Burly.

Hmm...I remember making the Love Potion #9 claim, didn't know anyone was paying attention.

Burley is kind of musky with woodsy undertones. You can tell it is OS under it all, but yet it is a completely different creature altogether. IMO it was the most non-OS OS product ever made.

Through further Research and some great info from a Member here via PM. Burly it seems is a close cousin to vintage Tabac. I will soon order the current versions of Tabac cologne, EDT and aftershave to see which one( if either) is closest to vintage, as well as Burly. I respect the opinion of the Member as to the comparison he did with Tabac and Burly samples. The bottom line is if indeed Burly is an early clone of an earlier fragrance still being produced and readily available at a good price it would be foolish to reverse engineer it again.
I do invite further comparisons from those who have experienced both.
