I love the Apollo family of razors -- Mikrons, slants, Bakelite, the whole gamut. It's a shame they couldn't continue to evolve -- and that their apparent successor Merkur -- has had so much less innovation in their design and development. But meanwhile there are the vintage sets that are in such great condition and represent that exciting era of creativity and production.
I hope to provide a more comprehensive overview of the range of razors Apollo produced, but for today just wanted to share some of the beauties I've recently acquired. Not to cause inflation in the marketplace, but to remind everyone of the high level of engineering finesse inherent in these German classics.
Two sets that are kind of the long & the short of it regarding size and heft.
And this new vintage set, in the "blau" leather case. With the fibre cloth to keep the head shined.
The little bullet shaped device is for alum powder.
Can't easily replicate that incredible deco-styled knurling.
What a great design aesthetic these Apollo designers had. And what a shame we've lost that -- except maybe in the German cars.
