What's new

the "random stuff you buy @ home depot" thread

I know some of you probably do this. I thought it'd be fun to see what random things you buy at home depot, or any other hardware store for that matter.

the other day I bought:

Husky stubby hammer (I don't need a mini hammer but it was so cute I couldn't resist)
Husky stubby crescent wrench
2pk LED flashlights (one has a cool laser pointer )

I used to collect things that were Yellow. Even though I already owned a pretty good set of Craftsman tools, I wanted a spare set to keep upstairs, so I wouldn't have to run to the basement when I needed a small hand tool. So, I bought a starter-set of Stanley tools, just because they were yellow, and a yellow plastic toolbox to keep them in.

I highly recommend you don't go there on black Friday, you may come home with all kinds of stuff.
I think this year I picked up a 6 pack of LED flashlights, a 32 wrench set, two 4 packs of tape measures, and some other things. They have all of these things for dirt cheap 5-10 bucks usually and I just can't resist. I always am eying the cheap $5 pack of screwdrivers they sell then too as one can never have too many screw drivers no matter how cheap they are.

expanding foam, great to winterize and seal my truck, so many holes in the firewall. Make the whole thing quieter, too.

Always something:001_smile

I've got drill bit AD - every time Home Depot has a sale on a set of assorted bits for my electric drill, the new addition goes straight home to a storage cabinet in my garage. If I started up the drill today and ran it continuously, I'd probably still have unused bits left in 2050 !!!!

My last visit to Home Despot I bought 50' of clothes line and a large capacity electric clothes dryer. I keep eyeing a 18v DeWalt cordless drill/driver though. :tongue_sm

the bargain aisle was the first place I went. I got the Husky hammer and crescent wrench for $5 total. I'm guessing the Husky brand is now owned by Home Depot - either way, I was told the stubby tools were a limited deal and once they're gone they're gone. I couldn't find the stubby hammers at a different Home Depot.

Stopped in to get some screws and miscellaneous stuff and bought a halogen work light. Not sure what I'm going to do with it, but at least I have one now!

I go to Loews, but we always check the clearance stuff and tile section to see if there are any cool tiles on sale. Don't know why, but it seems like ever since I've owned a house, tiles are always useful for everything from coasters to fixing dings in the wall. :smile1:

There are a number of recent trips to the orange box under my belt lately. I remodeled our living room and then did some work on the study. Recent acquisitions in no particular order:

Ceiling Paint
White trim paint
two types of eggshell interior paint
new Husky toolbox
Husky need pads.
Chisel set
two new paint brushes
electric sander
finishing nails
hardwood 1/4 rail
baseboard & window trim
slate tile
grout
sealant

I think that's it for December

Lots of insulating stuff lately. I got HD gift cards for my birthday and am getting them for Christmas. The deliberate items will be two programmable thermostats. I have been known to buy various items in the clearance areas.

According to my wife, everything I buy is random. She doesn't like it when I go by myself to Home Depot. Since it is less than a mile from the house, It is very convenient.

I just bought a house in July (first time homebuyer) so Home Depot(that and Farm and Fleet) has become my new favorite store. However I usually don't have any impulse buys when I go. I only get what I need because I don't have the funds to spend lavishly on stuff that's not on the list.
