The RAK PIF - KCCO!

Welcome to the RAK PIF! What is an RAK? Random Act of Kindness. Online communities posess a unique and powerful ability to do some good in the world, when mobilized together for a good cause. Whether it's something as simple a giving an unexpected compliment or joining forces with thousands to help a family dealing with some heavy experience. There are countless examples, and it is truely inspiring to see in this power in action.

So, for this PIF, I have a humble "Starter Kit" offering, Including:
  • Merkur 33c (I received this as a PIF from a member here, great razor, time to pass it on)
  • New unused tub of Nancy Boy Blossomwood shaving cream
  • New unused vintage puck of DR Harris Lavender shaving soap
  • New unused stick of Arko
  • User grade Semogue 1520
  • 4711 aftershave
  • A few blades
  • and what ever else I can find to shove in the flat rate box.

All you have to do to be eligible for this PIF is do something nice for someone else. The scale of your RAK is irrelevant, give a compliment, tip your server a little extra or cure cancer. Share your experience here, I'll close this out once we reach at least 5 pages of RAK experiences. Winner will be randomly selected.

Now let's go do some good people!!!

Last year around Christmas time I took one of my wifes friends kid christmas shopping. Now I have to say it was the funniest thing ever as i'm sure he didn't once look at a price tag. His mom and dad were just starting their divorce and were more interested in hurting each other than making sure the kids had a good christmas. My wife got mad and his mom were mad, but I told them to get over it. Later that same week I shoved 200$ down the same moms pants (she wouldn't let me put it in her hand.) to get her kids some toys for christmas. Not entirely random as I know the people, but at least that christmas i made sure those kids had a good one while their parents had their fight.

I'm in! We are moving out of state and decided instead of trying to sell stuff on Craigslist we would donate our television(old 36in sony trinitron tube tv. works great but heavy as all get out) to my former work. I just left a residential treatment facility for teenagers and the rec room has been without a tv for almost two months due to a resident getting a bit angry. We figured the kids there would enjoy it and we would feel better about getting rid of it. I'm actually dropping it off tomorrow.

Well I always tip my server a little extra so I wouldn't consider that a random act of kindness. But I did recently help my neighbour with a problem with her house. She is a single mother and she was recently commenting on how her roof was leaking pretty bad but she couldn't afford to have someone come in and redo the roof. After talking to her she said she could afford shingles so a few of the guys in our neighbourhood and myself spent a weekend reshingling her roof, turns out the old shingles were just falling apart but it was hard to notice from the ground. She kept trying to offer us money but we kept refusing, we did eventual settle on lunch though. So that's one of my random acts of kindness.

A bunch of friends decided that instead of having our usual annual Christmas with all the eating and drinking, we would host one in an orphanage. This was two Christmases ago. It was pretty cool since most of us were couples who didn't have kids. We'll probably do it again once we all clear up our schedules (few of us are getting married/setting up businesses).

Well, yesterday I found out that my roommate was in the hospital, explained why he never came home the night before, and went to visit him. I also find myself giving Pro Bono tech support to people, I usually tip my waitresses well, and I am part of a group at my church that once a month we goes into a low income housing community and provides a morning of activities for the children with a simple Bible lesson and free lunch provided for them. Hopefully something from this list will count.

Nice PIF. I take my retriever, Radar, to the local old folks home each week. The old timers have mostly had pets all their lives and now they can't have pets at the retirement home. They really like to pat the dog and reminisce.

I'm in, and my RAK is this morning I got a call from a neighbor. He's out of town, and his cattle needed some water. So I hooked up the water trailer and hauled water for him. I might post another one though, because I dont necessarily consider that as a RAK, but something that I feel I should do if asked.

I am in! Today, while moving our things into a rented vacation condominium I helped the neighbor gent carry his things in to the room above ours! He mentioned how grateful he was, we spoke about where we were from and our travels to OCMD and had a great conversation.

I'm in! Driving home after grocery shopping I saw someone holding a sign asking for help; money or food anything we could spare. I got home a bag lighter than I'd expected to.

A couple of weeks ago we were visiting my wife's parents in south Georgia. We decided to go eat at one of the places we ate at all the time when we were dating. While eating a very young couple (teens) came in and after watching them for some time I decided to pay for their meal..... but first I had the waiter bring them a desert with two spoons and then I paid the bill, with tip and departed so they wouldn't know who did it. I told the waiter to tell them it was on the house.

I was traveling through Hobby International Airport about 3 months ago on the way to a job site for my company. There were 4 soldiers dressed in ACU camouflage uniforms and looking rather glum. I struck up a conversation with them and they informed me they were on their way to Afghanistan for a second deployment. These guys are the door kickers and name takers. I told these men to gather up their gear and follow me, I then proceeded to bring them to the Papa Deauxs restaurant and bought them all a steak dinner. I figured what better way than to say Thank You for all they have done.

I just fixed the two computers of an elderly couple in our church. I am an I.T. professional so it took me 90 minutes and saved them from having to pay to have them serviced. The time I spent visiting with them was well worth it to me.

I'm in, as far as RAK goes, 2 days ago I was out razor hunting, and happened across a shop that advertised on its windows that they sold vintage and collectible items, so I entered, and they had the nicest collection of 1/24 scale cars I have ever seen. So I picked out a truck/trailer combo, and gave it to a person whom I know collects model cars. He was having a very bad day that day, and it really brightened him up. I am a firm believer in RAK and Paying It Forward. Normally I don't mention it, but I feal compelled to share that, so others will do the same. Good Karma, is after all, is good Karma. God bless you all, and have a great day.

I'm in. I was living in FL, where the temperature ranged from "hot" to "I just fried an egg on my forehead." There was a guy, about my age, fixing all the lettering on the glass window of a shopfront. As I approached, I reached into my cooler pack and pulled out a couple of flavored waters, and put them on the ground near his things. "You're going to want those more than I will in the AC, my friend."

I'm in. My RAK was this morning and I picked up a guy trying to hitch / thumb a ride to the airport. He was grateful and I was happy to help. Good luck all entrants. Thank you OP

I'm in. So about two months ago I did some serious rearranging of my house following the passing of my wife, and had quite a few items that I found I no longer needed, including a cedar lined armoire which I listed on CL for $40. I ended up in a really nice email exchange with a local woman who really had need for one but wasn't sure she could swing the $40. It turns out that she was helping her cousin who has been homeless for awhile following a string of misfortune by setting up a room for him in her house rent free to help him get back on his feet. I was pretty blown away by HER RAK, so I invited them over. Very nice people. Turns out he was pretty close to my size....so I donated the armoire to him and added 2 suits in decent condition and three dress shirts for job hunting, two ties, a laptop, a TV, a coffee table and a tracfone. I hope their both doing well and I felt way better than $40 would ever have made me. I know somewhere my wife smiled.

I'm in. My wife and I were driving down the street when I saw a guy trying to push his stalled out(broken down?) riding mower all the way through his yard, so I hopped out of the car and helped him push it back to the garage. About a week later I saw him riding it wearing a cowboy hat and swinging the hat in the air like he was riding a bronco. Quite an amusing sight!
