The R41 isn’t that aggressive

I have the 2011 version of the R41 which I find to be pretty aggressive. My main gripe with it is that it allows a lot of blade flex and chatter because of the design of the narrow top cap. Occasionally the stars align and I get an awesome shave with it but more often than not the shave is somewhat rough because of blade flex and chatter. Consequently I hardly ever use it. I might buy a current version of the R41 just to see how different they are.
I put the top cap from my 2013 model onto the baseplate of the 2011 and it seems to eliminate the blade flex and chatter you refer to. While still getting most of the benefit of a Muhle R41 2011. The baseplate, in my opinion, has more control over the quality of the shave than the top plate. I call it getting the best of both worlds when I substitute the more recent top cap. Eliminates one set of variables. Plus saves wear and tear on the original top cap in case I wish to sell the razor someday when my face won't tolerate the "Beast".
