What's new

The Poor, Disrespected Weishi.

Like a number of people in the group, I bought a Weishi as my first foray back into double-edged shaving (after a long period away), in my case it was a 9306-G. It quickly got supplemented, then replaced by other razors, as my RAD took hold, and it went into my travel kit, largely because it came in a decent, hard plastic case, and it was so cheap that I wouldn't be upset if it disappeared while traveling. And there it sat until recently...

Well, I have been on the road for the past 3 weeks or so, which has meant using nothing but the Weishi. I have to say, it has been superb. It has been paired with either a Russian Rubie Gillette Platinum Plus or a Dorco, and much to my surprise, it has performed flawlessly. Once I got used to the smaller handle than the long-handled razors I usually use at home, it felt great and gave me BBS shaves every time, yielding at least 3-4 great shaves per blade.

Until this trip, I had planned on replacing it as my travel razor with something with more sex appeal, but now --- no way. If I didn't have so many other razors (did I mention that RAD had struck early on?), it would come out of my travel kit and back into regular rotation. This baby is definitely a keeper.

My Weishi is about to head into my travel kit as well but as I've posted on other threads regarding my new found love of DE shaving I really can't fault this razor at all. It's a fantastic beginner's razor and while its build quality could obviously be better it has performed flawlessly and given my the 7 best shaves of my life since I started my journey a couple of weeks ago.

Yes, the :chinese: 9306 Weishi is a well performing and nicely built razor. IIRC it is advertised to be made of brass, except the handle's plastic end cap of course.
I'm tempted to buy another one, strip it down lo see if it is really entirely made of brass, and if this is true have it re-plated in rhodium... :punk:

Agreed, the Weishi isunfairly maligned.

My first DE was the 9306 in nickel, consensus is that these are better made than the other models. It looked great, was well made. True, it is a knock-off of Gillette's Superspeed, but since Gillette has no interest in selling DE razors...

It was a very mild razor, but a shim helped. I regret getting rid of it.

For some reason there is an urban legend on here about how bad these are...I disagree. I think some are well made. And they shave just as good as most Gillette models which are by and large just as mild.

I have heard people talk of poor quality with these but the Weishi I have is a fine razor, it looks great and shaves very similar to my Gillette Superspeeds, It is mild but then so are Techs and Superspeeds , I think for the price trying one of these is a very small gamble

I got moves like Jagger
Nothing wrong with the Weishi. Mine lasted a few years before I overtightened and had to buy a new razor.
