The Other Name Brand Pens

We see and talk a lot about Pelikan, Parker, Sailor, Lamy and Pilot at least the metro...

But there are other pens we don't yalk about often I know members have

I would appreciate some pictures and info on Platinum, the other pilots like the 74, Bexley and even Edison hasn't been showing up lately

With so many new guys around its important to get to show them all the options out there

If you got something we don't talk about often, lets have a look and see if we can broaden our scope of pen base a bit

Parker "51"... not talked about enough. Are youse going to start a thread about ones that should never be talked about ?:001_tt2:

Well that's like dividing by zero Brian... start a thread to talk about pens we shouldn't talk about ..

And that when the universe turned itself inside out

I gather that you're asking about modern pens. Because if we're including vintage ones, then everybody ought to have at least one Esterbrook, a vintage Conklin, an Eversharp...

But back to modern brands, how about Taccia? My Overture is an excellent writer, c/c type, but attractive, inexpensive, and a really smooth nib. Actually, I think this specific model may have been discontinued, but some sellers still have stock, and there are similar models.

I would really like to see a comparison between a Platinum 3776 or President and a Sailor Pro Gear or 1911. I've often wondered why those two Platinums to get much press around here.

There was some talk about the Edison 2013 LE Morgans a while back, as well as Brian's new stealth pen.

My first quality fountain pen some years ago (BBB - Before Badger & Blade!) is still one of my favourites, the Italian made Aurora Ipsilon. Not expensive but beautifully made and a lovely writer.

+1 on the Taccia Overture. I have the Blue Granite and it is buttery smooth. A few of the "other" manufacturers that I like are Laban, Libelle, Airmail, Baoer, NPC and Waterman. Even a few Duke and Kaigelus. And I may take some flack for it but I have a few "higher end" Heros that are enjoyble pens. And some old school Wing Sungs that make the rotation every now and again.

I have had reasonably good luck with a simple Cross fountain pen that I acquired several (~18) years ago. I wonder if it is even made any longer.

Ive only used one modern Cross pen, and it was entry level, It wrote okay and looked nice enough but it isn't something to judge their whole pen brand by I think

Platinum is one pen brand we almost never see here and I would love to know more, I think Ian has some but I cant remember for sure
