The Other Colours

So we all see various blues and blacks and everything in between those two, but what about all the other colours out there

Whats your favourite, how do you use them, do they ever go to work with you ?

I know I love writing letters with Yama Budo from Iroshizuku inks, on the off white champagne colour of the G.Lalo paper it settles down from its brightness a bit and looks very fitting and nice, although I find it very much out of place at work so I dont bring it here

On a similar note to James, I really like Diamine Claret, which is similar to Yama-budo and Noodler's Cactus Fruit Eel. I would never use them at work, except for maybe to do lists that I would only see. Diamine Boot Brown has become a favorite because it's such a rich color, especially in a fine nib. Iroshizuku Shin-ryoku and Diamine Apple Glory are my favorite dark and light greens, respectively. Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses is a nice reddish purple. Diamine Peah Haze and Noodler's Apache Sunset are both amazing oranges. The latter shades a lot more. Those are some of my favorite "other colors."

I tried Diamine Yellow and it was a nice yellow but extremely difficult to see except in the right light. Probably very nice for drawing, not so much for letter writing.

I enjoy a variety of greens, though Private Reserve Sherwood remains my favorite and a stalwart. I use this green and a couple of other dark greens for to-do lists at work but nothing official. I do employ red a lot grading student papers, and I prefer Sheaffer Skrip Red to others I have tried (no orange shading!), though I wouldn't mind playing the field with reds. I have used PR Tanzanite for grading, too, but my students were weirded out by violet, so it was back to red.

I am also partial to browns, and I really need to expand in this category. I like PR Chocolat and Noodler's #41 but don't always need a wet ink or nib creep. I have my eye on something ruddier, perhaps verging on red or orange shading, and maybe a lighter brown, too.

I also like Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-budo, as it's eye catching and unique. Another favorite is Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-guri for a brown ink.

On the red/orange/yellow spectrum of the ink world... Noodler's Cayenne, Noodler's Apache Sunset, and Montblanc's Carlo Collodi.

Fabriano cioccolato is a gorgeous brown. And I still have one bottle of Rotring Brilliant Rot (partly full).

And my prize ink: I still have one and half bottle left of the best green ever made; Penman Emerald.

Dark purples are nice, too. Diamine Damson and R&K Scabiosa are two or my favorites. For reds I really enjoy Diamine Syrah, a beautiful deep red/brown, and pharmacist's Sang Real, a wonderful iron-gall. In the green range, I like the greenish brown of PR's Avacado, the muted green of Sailor Epinard and I just ordered a bottle of Diamine Umber. The Umber looks like it will be right up my alley.

I consider blue and black to be the other inks.

I love the MB Emerald green. It dries quick and its a nice shade for the office.
Montgrappa Bordeaux is awesome too. PR Chocolat is a must. I actually really like brown ink. Currently I'm using MB Toffee brown in a few pens.

Looking forward to my order of Noodlers Blue Ghost. Color? Don't need no stinkin' color for sending sneaky letters to my nieces and nephews! ;)

My favorite right now is private reserve orange crush. I dont use it for 'official' paperwork, just for personal note taking, doodling, etc...

Two of my current favorite non-blue-or-black inks are Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses and Diamine Oxblood. Both can probably be lumped into the dark red/burgundy grouping, but they have quite different characteristics and feel.

Brown: Noodler's Polar Brown
Red: Diamine Oxblood
Green: Diamine Sherwood

Purple ... there's a world of difference between Kung Te-cheng and North African Violet, both by Noodler's, but both warrant your interest.
