The Order of the Fat

Waiting for things to arrive. maybe late next week. Hoping business partner and artist, Deran, will have a black sheep Lanny for us, too.

I just love the smell and feel of MWF, the fat has come to be my favourite soap. I use it Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Tuesday is for Tabac and Friday I'll usually use a Stirling.

Nifty PIF!

I have returned to the fold (pun intended) after reading 25% of the way through the "3017" thread, and have decided that the first soap of my collection to receive the 3017 treatment is the Fat. I have over a dozen other soaps that are on this list, too, but I need to work on finishing off what is still my first puck of MWF. And there need be no worries, as I have two other pucks in reserve . . . which will NOT be receiving the 3017 treatment, rather remaining as part of a smaller, permanent rotation.

Shaved with it last night for the first time in a while using my Semogue 620, and had a wonderful shave. It was also the first time I face-lathered with the Fat; I had it on my face before I remembered that I usually bowl lather with it. I might have built a better lather on my face, so I'll be going with that for about a week before returning to the bowl and making a comparison. In any case, I'm getting marvelous shaves, and the usual wonderful post shave feel.

I am sorry you are missing out on all of this wonderful lathery awesomeness!

Serious fat porn there.

I'm a novice with the fat, and getting pretty good results in lather and shave. My lather results are enhanced by adding a little dab of Proraso green to the mix (which might be heresy here). I call the results Italian Wool Fat.

Anyway, how did you get such a glorious lather with MWF?

Happy shaves,

Jim

Jim, I not only soak my brush when I shower but the Fat as well. I load my brush for 60 seconds and then whip up my lather. I add a drop or two every thirty seconds with a total lather time of about 90 seconds. It took me a bit of trial and error to finally get this method down but it pays off in droves.

It isn't heresy to add anything to the Fat as long as you get the desired results. I am glad you are now a member of the fold!

Thanks, Riff.

I do much the same. Bet our waters are different. I'm seriously considering obtaining and using distilled water for my brush soaking, and for hydrating the fat.

What brush are you using? My guess is lots of brushes, and the brush is not a factor. I've been mostly using an SOC and some good synthetics.

My lather isn't porn worthy, but it is shave worthy. It does sometimes dry out a bit on my face, but I just touch it up with the brush.

The main thing - as any member of The Order of the Fat knows - is not the lather. The thing is the shave!

Oh, and the feel of the skin afterwards, and the softness over time which comes from the fat.

Thanks so much.

Happy shaves,

Jim

Jim,

I mainly use two brushes: Simpson Commodore X3 and Semogue 620. Believe or not I find I get a denser lather with the Semogue. But I get more volume with the Commodore.

Hey,

Just had a week in Paris...me and da Fat. :a24:It was no different over there, great shave. I brought an open comb with me, hoping to find blades in Paris. No luck, but I was also packing a Parker handle and some two-blade carts. And da Fat is always with me. :001_wub:

Oh, I like Whipped Dog High Mountain Badger, 24" brushes. Now I've ordered black badger, long handle, drilled, 30mm. I have lots of brushes but mostly prefer badger. I love my Simpson Wee Scot for face lathering with the Fat.

I'd like to apply for membership in TOOTF. I've had a puck of MWF for a few weeks now and had only tried lathering it a few times before last evening's shave. I think I have unlocked the secret of the creamy goodness now and I'm hoping to replicate my success for my next shave. I am a believer!
