The old "Old Spice" mugs

So my mother presented me with an old mug & brush that she found at an antique store. The brush is an Ever Ready boar and it looks gently used but not very old to be honest. The mug, on the other hand...well there's no telling how old it is.

It's one of the Old Spice mugs with the "Ship Friendship" on it. Good condition, ship and words only slightly faded. Needless to say, I'm quite happy to have it. According to mom it was the same type my grandfather had.

Anyway....having it is good enough. I've always wanted one. But now she says I should use it, since it's a "real mug" (as opposed to the $1.25 soup mug I've been using.

And, well, I used it tonight and I must say that the thing is quite small. I have an EJ large Super and it bangs against the sides of the cup when I make lather. The smaller (but taller) Ever Ready does the same thing. I'm not worried about damaging the mug because it's in great condition and I know they're made to last, but the small size annoys me. It's too bad because it looks GREAT in the bathroom with the brush and razor in it.

I know they originally came with soap pucks in them but does anyone know what size brush were they made for? I like my EJ but it's just too large...as much as I enjoy finally having this mug I might have to retire it to the shelf.

Oh, and is there any way to know how old it is?

You can put soap in it and load your brush from it, and still make lather in your other bowl (or on your face). I got an Old Spice mug from my dad (with most of the soap still in it!) but don't lather in that mug.

I completely agree boss man. I started with a worn out small brush and was still bumping the sides of a similar bowl. I keep a puck in it and load my current (Best Badger) brush before lathering in my 2 dollar Target Latte mug.
