What's new

The new thing is wearing off a bit but still enjoy my shaves!

I am now a little over a year into this.

Prior to discovering the finese of traditional shaving I used electrics and carts. Wet electrics worked best for me but were not comfortable enough for daily shaves.

Over this year I acquired quite a lot of shaving stuff and found many things that work great for me (both kit and technique).

I can now shave daily and enjoy the shave and the result so a big thank you to this lovely forum is in place.

However, I do find myself less interested in trying new stuff and check this forum a lot less often than I used to.

This is good in a way as I never spent as much on shaving as I did in the past year. I think I will get through 2013 with very little shaving expenses.

Thanks guys!

ps. this is not a check-out note.

Glad to hear that it is not a farewell from you.

Being on B&B takes shaving from personal grooming to a comradery with others of like interests who must do the same task daily.

Good post
I am in the same place, I have my routine and products down pat thanks to all the good folks here and the lively discussions. I too started to save money on carts and that went out the window. Like JDTTO I'm not going anywhere but I do find I am reading posts more for entertainment than advice now. So keep up the humorous banter and take solace that an avowed lurker in snowy Ontario is shaving better and chuckling at his computer screen because of you guys

Completely OT but RCA ain't kidding when he says "snowy Ontario" up where he is! We've had a lot down here in The County the last couple of days too, just got in from plowing the drive. Not fun...

And to get back on topic, I hope to be in the same place as JDTTO this time next year. I have only been into this stuff for 3 months or so and already feel the need to sign up for the SPS-GI but I *know* that I couldn't make it.

I find b&b to be kind of cyclical. When I first joined I was all about reading the forum as much as possible and acquiring new products. Invariably, the forum posts became kind of repetitive and I had too much stuff so I stopped checking b&b and started to work my way through products. Several years later I finally ran out of creams, soaps, and blades so now I'm back reading the forum often and checking out new gear. The same cycle of repetition will probably take over but there is a LOT more content on b&b now compared to when I first joined.

Now half as wise
I can understand the sentiment, especially when one get';s consistently good shaves with what ever products they are using. There's lots more to B&B, though. The main draw for me is camaraderie, but close in line comes, The Nib, The Haberdashery, The Cafe. The Mess Hall, The Darkroom, etc. There's always something of interest going one, something else to learn from another's experiences in life.

Not to mention finding a milion ways for everyone else to help spend my money!:scared:

Yeah, the new and shiny wears off, but the level of cooperation and courtesy on this site guarantees my regular attendance.

Joris,

i feel the same way about DEs, shave soap, cream, A/S, balms, and for the most part straights, strops and hones… I got what i need and only will supplement if something is eating away at me that i want to try… if anything, i'd like clear out the den a bit.

There's a season for everything. If you've been wet shaving for a few years, sure some of the posts become repetitive.

However, the other thing that is repetitive is the steady stream of newcomers who experience the same amazement and excitement that I felt a few years ago. Because wet shaving and B&B have been very good to me, I intentionally reach out to some newbs in a direct way and others simply greet with a friendly greeting.

For however many years we've been shaving we now have that experience to pay it forward.

As a complete noob myself I have to say that I am totally amazed at how many new people there are on this site literally every day. Also, the posting traffic here is as fast paced as I have seen on ANY forum. Every day the entire first page of General has all new threads it seems.

For myself, I'd like to thank the more experienced members here for their unflagging enthusiasm and generosity in sharing not only their knowledge but their "wisdom". Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

Or something like that. :biggrin1:

the novelty may wear off but every time I walk by the over priced cartridges and look for those Double edged blades I feel like I finally won one.

when my friends declare me suicidally crazy for shaving with such a dangerous blades, I secretly feel a bit of pride, for I go where they fear to tread.

and some day I will use a strait razor, and then I will have started to master the art of manliness.

As I say to my sons, courtesy counts. This is a forum of, by, and for courteous gentlemen. I appreciate that aspect as much as the shaving tips.
