The need for water

I just discovered a subtle nuance to my shaving technique and want to share it to see if any others out there have discovered the same thing. I use TOBS shave cream which whips up to a great lather. It also takes a lot of water without degenerating. I notice that after I whip it up to a nice lather the shave is much better if I dip my brush in water one last time and go over my beard again. The lather (as I said) does not degenerate and the \resulting shave is better. It's as if my whiskers want as much water surrounding them as possible. I get the sense that the lather not only delivers a nice lubricating effect but also holds this all important water next to and around the whiskers. When I don't apply these last few swipes of water soaked brushing, my shave is harsher and not as comfortable and smooth. Has anyone else noticed this or shared this experience?

I've never felt the need to---and from the way you describe things, it sounds as if you simply need to make a wetter lather to begin with.

I make sure my face is nice and wet between passes. I also noticed that a wetter lather works much better for me.

I would say the same--maybe the lather can stand to be wetter. They hold much more water than you think.

If you read my post, you'll see that is pretty much what I am saying. I lather up but when I think I'm done, I wet my brush and apply more water . . . thereby making a wetter lather. And producing a much better shave. The point of this is that water is a key part of the lathering process . . a fact that really resonates with me and several others who have PM'd me and responded to this same issue under the General Shaving forum where I also posted it. Don't just think you're covering your beard with lather, your beard needs plenty of water to get the whiskers soft and produce the best possible shaving experience.
