What's new

The mania continues

It has been a while since I posted on B&B. I really enjoy reading everone's adventures into the wonderful world of wet shaving. I have been a dedicated DE razor uses with my favorite being my father's red tip super speed. I really wanted to expand my skill set and try a straight edge. I purchased a really shave ready Waldsworth XLNT. However, each time I bring the razor to my lathered face, I see Freddy Kruger looking back at me ready to do me in. I am such a coward.:a52: So I thought, "What about a single edge razor?" So I purchased a near mint Rolls Razor No. 2. After looking at the blade I knew it definitely needing a good honing, which is a skill I lack. So what is a person to do? I starting reading about the Gem and Ever-Ready razor line up in this sub forum. Well, I decided to take the plunge. I have a 1912 Gem Junior and 1924 Ever-Ready cabinet model with cabinet on the way. Any blade or technique suggestion would greatly be appreciated.

Get some film and a marble tile, and hone the rolls blade. Honing in hand works a lot better than honing with the rolls mechanism. Run a progression of film and then finish on .3u over damp paper with lather, then strop on a tight hanging leather strop, chuck it in the handle and shave. Oooooohhhh.... nice.

I have been using www.thorlabs.com for lapping film. They sell in packs of 10 sheets, though. No single sheets. So you might want to google for it. You want lapping FILM, not polishing paper or polishing film or any other wording. You also want rectangular sheets, not disks. You also want non-PSA, not PSA backed. (Pressure Sensitive Adhesive) The plain backed film is stuck to the tile with water only. The tile you can get at home depot. See this thread... http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/283576-Lapping-film-try-it?highlight=lapping+film+try+it. I suggest reading the entire thread (24 pages) and also saving all pages to your puter for reference.
