My dad was the 12th in a family of 13 children with 7 older brothers. All he had were “hand me downs” often patched and threadbare. He took pride in his appearance and even when most casually dressed he looked put together. He found it amusing that I chose to wear vintage clothes that someone had already worn.
An interesting thread. There is a lot to be said for purchasing vintage apparel especially for those on a tight budget. The quality of vintage clothing compared to a similarly priced modern item will in many cases be far superior in terms of materials, fit, and craftsmanship. It is also environmentally sound as items are recycled and in many cases will go on to last for many more years compared to some modern, almost disposable clothing. Some of my favourite items have been from vintage stores and there is always a chance of finding a vintage razor in the same shop, not that I ever have.
