What's new

The mailman is my new best friend! [PIC]

Today in my mail I got my first safety razor and a sample shave lotion/oil/cream/brush kit. The razor is a 1960 Gillette SuperSpeed in almost impecable condition. Picked her up for $15! I snagged the only DE blades I could find which are Dorco blades (havent heard they are the greatest but hey its better than nothing). The kit is "The Art of Shaving" Sandalwood Pre-shave Oil, After-shave Balm, Shaving Cream and a little badger hair brush! This should be fun.. I almost cant wait for my 5 o'clock shadow just to hack my face up a few times before getting the hang of it  Im sure even though this brush is about half the size of my VDH boar brush, its going to feel much better and lather much better too.. now to find the perfect scuttle and Im ready to rock! (for now my shave soap is in a little round tupperware)

Ive read a lot about the SS and they say its pretty decent for a noob like myself. I tried a straight razor once with a DE blade I cut in half and used one side.. the side of the face was a little ouchy but it was nothing compared to the neck. one pass and it looked fine until I rinsed the blade and looked into the mirror.. it looked like something out of texas chainsaw massacre, I thought I was going to bleed out and die. Then I went back to expensive throw-aways like gillette fusions and electric razors.. I hope I fall in love with this razor.

also Ive been reading the term PIF.. what is that?

PIF=Pay It Forward, when one generous wet shaver is willing to pass on a piece of his arsenal to someone else so that they may understand the glory of said piece.
Also, you start with the exact same software set that I began with, and I'm so glad I did. Have fun!

Congrats on the SS purchase. I think you will really like it.

My second DE razor was a 1959 SS that looks just like yours and while I have aquired a few other razors since. My SS still see's plenty of action. In fact my last shave was with that razor. Have only tried a few different blades with it. But mine really likes Astra SP blades the best so far.

Look forward to hearing back on how your first shave goes with it.:001_smile

I've gotten to know my mailman much better in the short time I've been wet-shaving. Once the RAD hits, you start getting a couple packages a week.

Nice pick up! Hope you enjoy it. I actually have my first SS in the mail right now too!

Is this a coincidence or a conspiracy? The mailman just delivered my F-2 (1960) Flair Tip Super Speed this past Friday!
Congrats and have fun!!!

Good stuff. That's a sweet razor you got there. I love AoS stuff and I can't wait to try the sandalwood line. I love watching the big brown truck come to my house. I think my neighbors envy me for it. :)

I have the same flair tip and have yet to use it! Got it in the mail a month ago.. That is what happens when you get RAD.

The AoS sandalwood line smells amazing - but I like musky woody scents. I will use it here in about 3 hours before work, going to give myself a little more time for face-cutting time lol. Ill report back my experience once I use it.

Sweet starter set. The SS is possibly the best razor to start your wet shaving off with and your razor collection. Remember take it slowly at first, little pressure and find what works for you. Good prep is always a good start. And as for sandalwood scent....sweet!.
